Elan Home Systems, a leading manufacturer of award-winning multi-room audio/video and home automation systems, announced that it is now shipping the D660, the newest product in its D Series line of digital power amplifiers. In addition, the company announced that its new D400 amp is expected to ship on the heels of the D660 in the fourth quarter of 2005. The announcement was made by Bob Farinelli, Elan's president and CTO.

“While extremely compact, there is no question that the D660 is superior in sound and power. The ground-breaking technology employed by this amplifier is unrivaled in the industry today, and is an unmistakable illustration of our commitment to providing the most innovative products the market has to offer,” says Farinelli.

With the addition of these two models, dealers now have access to a total of seven unique power amp alternatives between the Elan analog and digital series models that range from $500 to $2200 retail price.

Paul Starkey, Elan’s EVP of sales and marketing, adds, “We expect the price, power, and efficiency of the D660 to have great appeal to our dealers and their clients. With the great anticipation surrounding the shipping, we are confident that this newest addition will set the standard for multi-room custom audio amplifiers.”

Providing great options and flexibility, the new D660 is a 6-channel digital amp, while the soon-to-arrive D400 is a 2-channel digital amp. Both carry the sound performance characteristics that Elan dealers have cherished in the existing ground-breaking D Series. Yet, now they are packed into unusually slim chassis at only 1RU high, as opposed to the typical 3RU, 4RU, or 5RU height of non-digital amplifiers with comparable power ratings. Each of these new models are also available in both shelf- and rackmount versions.

In the tradition of their award-winning big brothers, the D1200 and D1650, these additions include Elan’s D Series amplifier family styling, unmatched Class T technology, and 85 percent efficiency rating, and anti-clipping circuitry provided by Elan’s patent-pending ACE technology (Automatic Clip Eliminator). ACE is a dynamic leveling circuit that eliminates clipping without the typical audio degradation of traditional compressor-based clipping circuits. These combined features are unique to Elan’s D Series Amplifiers.

Because it is all digital, the D660 is clean-sounding and can be installed in enclosed areas such as custom cabinetry without the worry of it overheating itself or other components. Advanced features and style such as front-panel level setup, a blue Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD), system lock-out, and bulletproof amplifier protection circuits ensure intuitive setup, easy fine-tuning, and long-term reliability. Elan’s D660 is rated at 60W RMS per channel at 8Ω and 75W RMS per channel at 4Ω with less than .04 percent total harmonic distortion. The D400 is rated at 80W RMS per channel at 8Ω, 135W RMS per channel at 4Ω and 200W RMS per channel at 2Ω.

The D660 and D400 both come with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty. The D660 is offered at an MSRP of $1,000.00 for the shelf version and $1,050.00 for the rack version (model D661). The D400 expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2005 will carry an MSRP of $655.00 for the shelf version and $705.00 for the rack version (model D401).
