Kramer Electronics introduced four optical DVI cables, models 6010, 6020, 6030, and 6050, capable of sending DVI signals from 33ft. to 164ft. without the need for repeaters.
XGA resolution DVI signals typically can travel about 25ft. to 30ft. over copper-based cables before the signal is lost. Kramer’s new fiber-optic cables have converters built-in to each DVI-D connector on both ends of the cable. These converters turn the signals into fiber-optic light pulses so the signals can travel much greater distances. Kramer’s new fiber-optic DVI-D cables come in four pre-cut lengths. The 6010 is 32.8ft., the 6020 is 65.6ft., the 6030 is 98.4ft., and the 6050 is 164ft.
Kramer’s new fiber-optic DVI-D cables comply with the DVI standard and support the DDC2B mode. They are flexible and do not require external power, making them installer friendly. From most source devices, they draw their +5V power on pin 14 (some DVI source devices may not supply power on pin 14 and will require an external power adapter). These cables support computer graphics video signals with resolutions of up to 1920x1200 at 60Hz and HDTV signals up to 1080p, and they can be used with any DVI compatible display. All the cables comply with the HDMI interface standard and are HDCP compliant.
“We are very excited about these new fiber-optic DVI-D cables,” says Chris Kopin, vice president of product development for Kramer Electronics USA. “They are very flexible, they do not require external power, they support very high resolution computer and HDTV signals, and, most importantly, they remove the distance barrier for DVI-D signals.”
All four models of this optical DVI cable, the 6010, 6020, 6030 and 6050, are now in stock and available in the United States.
