Chapter 11 Reorganization at Alesis
On April 27, 2001, Alesis Studio Electronics filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, in conjunction with an agreement in principle to be acquired by the president of Numark Corporation, Jack O'Donnell. Alesis plans to continue normal operations; all tech support, service, sales, shipping and receiving, and parts customer service will remain in operation during the protection period. Jim Mack, vice president of sales and marketing commented, “We have maintained…the majority of the engineering staff, our manufacturing and sourcing team and our key sales and marketing staff…to support normal operations during this period and ramp up to full speed quickly once we're through with this transition.”
Peak Audio and Cirrus Logic
Cirrus Logic Inc. is acquiring the assets of Peak Audio Inc. Peak Audio's 18 technology and implementation experts will work for Cirrus. Jason Carlson, Cirrus Products Division vice president and general manager, will head Peak Audio, but the Peak office will remain in Boulder. See www.cirrus.com and www.peakaudio.com.
Klotz Digital and Graham-Patten
Klotz Digital America Inc. acquired Graham-Patten Systems Inc. The president of Graham-Patten, Howard Mullinack, is now vice president, television/film for Klotz Digital AG. The company will still operate out of its Grass Valley, Calif., offices. That facility will be expanded to add manufacturing capacity for the Klotz VADIS
Formula Sound Chooses Network Pro Marketing
Formula Sound appointed Network Pro Marketing as its distributor in the United States. IMAX and DHJ Media
IMAX Corporation is expanding its line into the digital electronic billboard market. Under an agreement with DHJ Media AB of Sweden, IMAX plans to develop and install digital media network systems to replace traditional poster advertising with high revenue digital billboards. Digigram and Peak Audio
At this year's NAB, Digigram and Peak Audio reported that they have formed an alliance to work toward new audio networking. Digigram branded products will incorporate Peak Audio's CobraNet technology for distributing real-time digital audio over Ethernet. The partnership includes an agreement for Digigram to offer CobraNet OEM developer modules for integration into third-party products. Barco Signs with Eight Major Cinema Dealers
To answer the question, “Where are engineers and technicians going to come from to install and service equipment in this new technology?” Barco Digital Cinema signed rental agreements with eight leading cinema dealers. Technicians from Abbott Theatre Equipment Inc., Bell Theatre Services Ltd., Bright Star Systems, Cinema Equipment Sales of California Inc., Media Technology Source LLC, National Cinema Supply Corporation, Omnex Pro Film Ltd. and Universal Cinema Services Inc. will have the opportunity to learn about the systems at Barco's training facility in Atlanta.
