CSI establishes office in Asia In order to better serve existing CSI product resellers and to take advantage of growth opportunities in Asia, Communications Specialties, Hauppauge, NY, has opened a new regional representative office in Singapore. This office will manage sales efforts for the Asia/Pacific region and expand CSI's sales and marketing efforts worldwide.

ProMix opens West Coast operations ProMix, the flagship company of Production Resource Group's (PRG) Audio Group, opened a Los Angeles office under the direction of renowned sound designer, engineer and technician Gary Hardesty. Adding this audio company to the existing lighting, scenery, systems and event companies in Las Vegas and Los Angeles completes the PRG services available west of the Mississippi. Additionally, PRG has expanded its Canadian Operation with the announcement of its opening a second store in Toronto. It joins the PRG/F&D Scene Changes of Calgary joint venture Great Lakes Scenery, opened in 1997. With this local presence, ProMix can better serve its increasing number of Canadian clients.

New THX standard provides brand extension opportunity Lucasfilm THX introduced THX Select, a new set of performance standards for mid-priced receivers and speakers that creates significant brand extension opportunities for consumer electronics manufacturers and step-up options for retailers. The new standard is based on the same basic values as the original Home THX specification, now called THX Ultra. Both categories will be under the Home THX Program. THX Select encompasses A-V receivers and loudspeaker systems. THX Select A-V receivers and loudspeaker systems will be more affordable because of lower power requirements. All current THX products will be re-badged as THX Ultra.

ACT Videoconferencing announces distribution agreement ACT Teleconferencing, Denver, announced a distribution agreement with Toyoda Machinery USA Corporation to sell and market Toyoda's Virtual Tech video product line. ACT Videoconferencing, a subsidiary of ACT Teleconferencing, will become the exclusive sales and marketing agent for the manufacturing company's latest innovation, a two-way wireless audio and visual communication system.
