Don't Forget Medialon

I was pleased to see such an extensive article on the Queen Mary 2 system in the September issue of S&VC. One aspect that was missing, however, was that of the show control, which my company, Medialon, was involved in.

In the two theaters, the Royal Court and the Illuminations auditorium, Medialon synchronizes all the shows, controlling video, audio, lighting and rigging. The Medialon installation is composed of two master systems with numerous touch panel interfaces. The touch panels are used in control booths and backstage to display comments and initiate orders during a show performance (next scene, timecode, etc.) or send confirmation information to the main booth. In each theater, a Medialon Manager Pro version receives timecode from a Tascam MX-2424 and synchronizes video, audio effects, lighting and rigging on its timeline. All equipment is connected via TCP IP (main show control machine, touch panels, IP to RS interface) except the midi and timecode interface, which are connected directly to the PC.

Medialon Manager is also used as a remote control system to recall seven different room presets or directly control each individual piece of equipment when the theater is used for other activities (Bingo, dancing, etc.).

During shows, a Second Medialon Manager Pro is running permanently, monitoring the main system and ready to take over the job in case of failure of the first Manager system.
