Cynthia Wisehart on ISE

ISE continues to grow with a reported 11.7% increase in attendance this year to 73,413 people. That’s something like 7000 more people than last year. The show reports almost 1,200 exhibitors–about 200 of them new for 2017. ISE 2018 will take place at the RAI Amsterdam Feb. 6-9 and will expand to a 15th hall.

Manufacturers also consider increasingly consider ISE to be a key location for product debuts. Here are just a few of them.
Yamaha Commercial Audio launched two new ultra-compact installation loudspeakers for the CIS range–the VXS1ML and VXS3S are new additions to Yamaha’s Commercial Installation Solutions (CIS) aimed at BGM applications in restaurants, retail outlets, hotel lobbies, etc. Matrox debuted the Maevex 6150 4K quad encoder appliance streaming and demonstrating zero latency pass though for all four of its inputs.

Following a trend towards powerful, compact fixedarchitecture solutions, Shure introduced the IntelliMix P300, a new digital signal processor created specifically for conferencing applications. The new half-rack processor connects up to eight Dante microphone channels to a room video system, USB soft codec, or mobile device. Each channel supports multiple DSP features, including Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC), Noise Reduction, and Automatic Gain Control, plus automatic mixing. Via USB, the P300 supports common soft codec programs such as Skype and BlueJeans; a 3.5 mm connector means anyone on a mobile phone or tablet can bring any remote participant into the conversation. Also in this vein, Biamp debuted the TesiraFORTÉ DAN range. A collaboration between Biamp and Shure, these new audio processors directly interface with the MXA beamforming line of microphones. As with the original TesiraFORTÉ family, there will be four fixed I/O models with the addition of 32×32 channels of audio via the Dante Brooklyn II module. Biamp’s AEC is onboard too.

Also in Dante expansion, Audio Technica added two models to the ATND line with the ATND931 and ATND933 ceiling microphones. These are the first wired microphone products to transmit both audio and control data using the Dante network protocol. An Ethernet connection allows these microphones (powered by network PoE) to communicate across an existing network of Dante-enabled devices. We’ll have more on ISE and in particular on Dante-enabled products in next month’s issue.

Meanwhile, ISE was not the only industry show in January. For more from NAMM, on page 44 Strother reports on new mixers and controllers.
