This month, SVC showcases a variety of 3D video projectors suitable for a range of applications, including consumer home theater, as well as commercial uses for research and development, science and exploration, museums, architecture, gaming, and entertainment.

Barco has just released its first commercially available 6P laser-illuminated projector. This laser projector is a compact 60,000-lumen projector with the first DCI-compliant laser that is capable of showing 4K content at 60fps and 3D movies in full 4K resolution, according to the company. The laser technology is paired with Dolby 3D color separation technology for use with custom Dolby 3D glasses. The glasses match the six primary laser light wavelengths of the Barco Laser 3D system to produce an immersive viewing experience. Barco received a special US-FDA variance for this projector, which does not require all the compliancy required for typical laser light shows.

BenQ SX912

The BenQSX912 DLP projector features 5000 lumens, a contrast ratio of 11,000:1 and has a 1024×768 native resolution. It supports full HD 3D and can display an image up to 300in. diagonally. It houses two HDMI inputs, two 15-pin PC inputs, an RGB monitor output, component video inputs, an S-Video input jack, composite audio and video inputs, a set of audio pass-through jacks, a microphone input, two USB Type-A’s, RS-232 and RJ-45 ports for control. It has built-in 5W speaker and is compatible with Crestron RoomView, PJ Link, and AMX for remote management over Ethernet. The unit features a filter-free design and employs BenQ’s SmartEco technology to minimize power consumption and maximize lamp life.

Casio’s XJ-H1750 is the XGA model within the company’s professional line of projectors. Rated at 4000 lumens and using a 0.7in. DLP chip, the XJ-H1750 features a laser/LED “hybrid” light source that allows for an estimated operational life of 20,000 hours. Zoom (1.2X) and focus are both manual, and up to 300in. images can be created. Its native aspect ratio is 4:3. Input connectivity amounts to two 15-pin RGBs, one HDMI, one S-Video, and one set of L/R and composite video RCAs. An RGB output is available to pass video through and a 3.5mm audio output. There is an RS-232 port, one USB-A, and one USB-B. It is networkable via an Ethernet jack or can be networked wirelessly using a USB adapter. The XJ-H1750 is 3D and whiteboard ready, meaning that, paired with any flat surface and an optional digital pen device, presentations can become dynamic and interactive.

Christie HD6K-M

Christie Digital offers a 3-chip DLP projector suited for a diverse set of applications from entertainment to industrial with its HD6K-M. It achieves a 6,600-lumen rating and employs dual 200W lamps. The contrast ratio can be electronically adjusted between 2500 and 10,000:1 to create just the right image for the setting. It has a 1920×1080 resolution. The unit features control over Ethernet, RS-232, RS-422, and USB, and can also be interfaced with via a provided IR remote control or a LCD keypad housed on the left side. Input jacks can be defined by the user through the 6K’s use of input module slots. By default, the first two slots are populated with dual-link DVI-D and VGA ports. Additional options include analog BNC, dual SD/HD-SDI, twin HDMIs, and video decoder input cards.

Digital Projection HIGHLite Laser WUXGA 3D

Digital Projection’s HIGHLite Laser WUXGA 3D is the world’s first and only laser projector. It is capable of more than 20,000 hours of projection from a solid-state illumination system in lieu of a traditional lamp. This minimizes lifetime TCO of the unit. It throws 10,000 lumens and has active 3D capability. Video signal inputs include dual HDMI 1.4 jacks, one dual-link DVI-D, Ethernet, 3G-SDI in and out, VGA, BNCs for component video, and RCA connectors for composite video. Communications and control are managed via a 9-pin RS-232, Ethernet, USB-A for servicing, 3D Sync in and out over BNC connectors, and three 3.5mm jacks for a wired remote and 12V trigger.

Eiki EIP-W4600

The EikiEIP-W4600 delivers 4600 lumens and a 1280×768 native resolution from one .65in. DLP chip. It accepts all major standard analog and digital inputs, and can display both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. It supports UXGA and WSXGA+ input resolutions. It touts a 2200:1 contrast ratio, two 15-pin RGB ports, one HDMI, one DisplayPort, one S-Video, one set of composite RCA ports, and one 3.5mm mini stereo jack. A 3W built-in speaker is housed in the unit. Outputs include a 15-pin VGA monitor port, stereo out, and a mini stereo. It is HDCP compliant and offers digital zoom from 50 to 400 percent. Control is managed over LAN or RS-232 ports.

Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 6030UB

The EpsonPowerLite Pro Cinema 6030UB is a 3D 1080P projector featuring 3LCD 3-chip optical technology. 3LCD uses separate chips to process each of the red, blue, and green colors. It can project various HD, 2D, 3D, and full 1080p resolutions. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio but is compatible with 4:3. In eco mode, the lamp can last up to 5,000 hours. The 6030’s contrast ratio is 600,000:1. Input terminals include two HDMI, one RS-232, one RCA for composite, three RCA for component, and one VGA computer in.

Optoma HD25e

Optoma’s HD25e is a single-chip 3D DLP projector with a 1920×1080 native resolution and support for up to 1920×1200 sources. It is rated at 2800 lumens and has a 20,000:1 contrast ratio. Images are displayed natively 16:9, but the unit is 4:3-aspect-ratio compatible. Lamp life, in economy mode, is up to 6,000 hours. Input/output connectors adorn the rear and include two HDMI 1.4a ports, one VGA, a composite video, 3.5mm audio inputs and outputs, RS-232 for control, 3D VESA, and USB.

Panasonic PT-AE8000U

Panasonic’s offering in the full-HD 3D projector space is the PT-AE8000U. It delivers 2400 lumens with a 500,000:1 contrast ratio. The 1080p unit features 3-chip LCD technology to create images formatted in 16:9. Available inputs include three HDMI connectors, a 15-pin VGA in, component video in, S-Video and composite in, and a trigger/3D shutter out for device, and 3D eyewear control. The unit comes equipped for various 3D adjustment capabilities such as 3D parallax, zoom, and focus adjustment.

Sharp XGPH80WN

The SharpXGPH80WN is a 3D-ready, single-chip DLP projector offering a 1280×800 native resolution. This 16:10 unit throws a maximum of 5600 lumens via dual lamps, and has a max 2100:1 contrast ratio. It is compatible with video signals up to 1080p and has dual 3W speakers. Video signal inputs include two RGB via 15-pin and 5-BNC connectors, digital RBG via HDCP-compliant DVI-D, RCA, and S-Video. Audio inputs include a 3.5mm stereo-mini jack and left/right RCA connectors. Outputs include a 15-pin video monitor port and 3.5mm stereo-mini connection. Control connectors include RS-232, a USB type B, and 12V trigger output for screen control.

Sony VPL-HW30ES

Sony’s VPL-HW30ES projector features a 70,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, has a 1300-lumen rating, and is full 1080p compatible. It has inputs for component video, VGA, HDMI, RS-232 for control, Ethernet for 3D video synchronization, and IR inputs. Focus, shift, and zoom are all manual. The unit is compatible with Control4, AMX, and Crestron for remote device control and management.

ViewSonic Pro8600

ViewSonic offers the Pro8600 for the DLP segment. It has a native 1024×768 resolution, is rated at 6000 lumens, and is 3D ready. It features a 15,000:1 contrast ratio and displays images in 4:3. Lamp life is a maximum of 3,000 hours. Inputs include two 3.5mm audio input jacks, RCA audio, 15-pin VGA in, S-Video, component video, RS-232 for control, a HDMI input, USB, and a 3.5mm microphone input. There is a VGA and 3.5mm output for video and audio pass-through, respectively.
