Audio Visual Innovations (AVI) completed the design and installation of the audiovisual system in the new Coweta County Justice Center in Newnan, Ga.

The Justice Center is fitted with state-of-the-art technology, from LCD touchscreens to complete room control panels to increase the control for judges, create more efficient proceedings, and enable remote arraignment participation. The Coweta County Justice Center was completed in June 2006 for $35 million, providing 120,000 square feet for the Superior Court, State Court, Magistrate Court, and a separate 20,000 square foot Juvenile Court facility, which is housed on the same campus.

The Justice Center is comprised of three floors and three different court systems, all functioning as individual courtrooms. The design had to accommodate the individual needs of each room and each floor as separate entities. Thus, all rooms are stand-alone, controlled from within by an individual control panel, operated primarily by the judge. Furthermore, the design included safety considerations for employees and citizens, simplifying the process of organizing and sharing information during court proceedings and newly installed video arraignment system.

The Superior, State, Magistrate, and Juvenile courtrooms are similar in function and contain identical sound distribution and reinforcement systems. Each of these rooms incorporates ceiling speaker sound systems, a white noise generator, a hearing impaired system, microphones, a digital court reporting system, and a Crestron control system for complete audio visual control.

To view VCR/DVD videos, computer images, television feeds, and in some areas, video arraignment and conferencing, each room is fitted with various sizes of LCD monitors. A custom-built lectern in each of the rooms contains a VCR/DVD player, laptop connection, and additional connections for a digital document camera or a portable projector from the pool equipment.

The Superior Ceremonial, State Ceremonial, and one of the magistrate courtrooms are capable of video conferencing and video arraignment via the Justice Center’s LAN/WAN. Video conferencing and video arraignment provide several advantages including increased personnel and public safety, and reduced cost of security detail and defendant transportation.

In addition to the equipment installed into the courtrooms, AVI supplied a “portable pool” of technology, which includes three LCD projectors with rolling carts to supplement any unusual needs for large-screen projection in the courtrooms.
