New Information Communications Technology Event Aimed at Government and Military Technology Professionals, Procurement Officers and Contractors

InfoComm International, the trade association representing the commercial audiovisual industry, announced that registration has opened for GovComm 2011, a new professional audiovisual and information communications technology exposition and conference to be held November 1-2, 2011, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

“GovComm is the only tradeshow focused solely on the specific communication needs of the government and military,” said Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., Executive Director and CEO, InfoComm International. “Solutions critical to supporting training, command and control, communications, presentations and other net-centric AV activities performed by the government, military and the contractors that serve them will be featured at GovComm 2011.”

GovComm 2011 will feature 100 leading manufacturers of digital signage, videoconferencing and telepresence, projection, display, 3D, control systems, audio and AV networking technologies. The exhibit floor will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Each morning will feature a keynote speaker at 9 a.m. Ninety-minute education classes held concurrently with the exhibits will be taught by experts from the world-renowned InfoComm Academy. Need Ideas for AV Week?

Each year AV professionals celebrate the AV industry during a week in October known as AV Week. In 2011, AV Week will be celebrated around the world October 16-22. It’s not too late to begin planning, but it is quickly approaching!

InfoComm is here to help you promote the AV industry. Here are a few ways you can celebrate AV Week.

  • Show Appreciation for Your Staff – AV Week is about reaching out to clients, students, business and the community, but you can’t forget your own. Some InfoComm members take the opportunity to recognize staff during AV Week simply by buying them lunch. InfoComm got its staff involved in InfoBake, a baking contest that featured 27 highly caloric, AV-themed desserts.
  • Start a Job Shadow Program – If you can’t commit to adopting a school or hosting a job fair, start smaller by reaching out to a local high school or technical college and offer a job shadowing program. Working with teachers, you can identify students who can benefit from shadowing a person on your staff for as little as a day. It’s a simple way to introduce someone to a fulfilling career.
  • AV Jeopardy – Create a game quizzing contestants about the AV industry – what does the industry consist of in terms of products, who uses AV, how does AV help people, how big is the industry, etc. You could stage the game after making a school presentation(s) or during employee and client events.
  • Set Up an Architect/Builder Event – If this is an important audience to you, create a program for builders/architects. You may want to target the top firms to see if they would like an update on the latest AV products showcased at InfoComm 2011. Show the products in use with a tour of your latest project. Ask to present at their next chapter meeting. InfoComm has presentations for architects and others in the building community to familiarize them with the AV industry and the design considerations for AV technologies.   • Request an AV Week Proclamation – Let your local (county, town or state) officials know that AV Week is October 16-22, 2011. They may issue an AV Week Proclamation which could lead to other opportunities – publicity, speaking opportunities, a visit from your local official. Contact them early in the year to allow time for approvals.
  • Pick a Charity – AV Week is the perfect opportunity to launch a charitable giving program for your office. There are numerous charities that benefit sight and sound, the senses we stimulate through AV technology. Pick one and make a donation of time and resources. It’s a great way to network, create good will and involve your employees to do good works.

InfoComm Offers Online Digital Signage Education Videos

InfoComm International has released educational videos of the InfoComm 2011 Digital Signage Application Showcase Theater presentations and interviews. More than two dozen 20-minute presentations by leading industry figures address key elements of digital signage planning, application and supply. Interviews with industry editors and commentary in “Ask the Expert” sessions illuminate industry directions and outlook. The videos can be viewed online at the InfoComm YouTube Channel at

The sessions were recorded June 15-17, 2011 at the InfoComm 2011 Digital Signage Application Showcase, which was produced by Multi-Media Solutions with assistance from Lyle Bunn of BUNN Co. Both Mike White and Lyle Bunn are InfoComm Academy faculty.
