System Integrators to Benefit from Code Changes

NSCA’s popular Mass Notification & Emergency Communications Summit will return to InfoComm 2011.

System Integrators to Benefit from Code Changes

Jun 2, 2011 12:27 PM

NSCA’s popular Mass Notification & Emergency Communications (MNEC) Summit will return to InfoComm 2011 in Room W307AB, from 1-3 p.m. on June 16 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

A standing-room-only event at the 2010 show, this year’s summit will focus on Chapter 24 of the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code (commonly referred to as NFPA 72). Industry stakeholders and the audience will exchange ideas, share new information, and develop a deeper understanding of MNEC systems and how integrators can benefit from these critical code changes. Topics include:

  • Determining factors and strategy for integrators entering the marketplace
  • Who is getting the work and what training is required
  • Market drivers, sales strategies and funding availability
  • Working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), oversight and training
  • Partnerships between audio and security integrators – how to design and bid on a project
  • Obstacles and challenges
  • Landscape of the MNEC marketplace for the next 12 months

This emerging market has proven to be a profitable venture for integrators involved in paging, fire alarm, life safety and audio/video evacuation. Specifically, Chapter 24 discusses emergency communication systems (ECS) and the design, installation and ability to integrate with traditional mass notification systems.

Panelists from a variety of influential companies will be on hand, such as:

  • Bill Bozeman, PSA Security Network
  • Merton Bunker, Merton Bunker & Associates
  • Neil Hahn, URS Corp and Hahn Integrated Systems
  • Randall Horne, Flexx Technologies
  • Mike Jobe, Siemens Industry
  • Jack McNamara, Bosch Security Systems
  • Ted Milburn, Cooper Notification
  • John Murray, Optimum System Solutions

Space is extremely limited for this summit. Attendees should use code MNEC to add it to their InfoComm 2011 registrations. For more information, contact Barbra Snitker at NSCA at 800.446.6722 or [email protected].

NSCA Education Foundation Promotes Industry, Plans Fun for InfoComm 2011

The NSCA Education Foundation Industry Charity Concert, featuring the Drunk Unkles, returns to rock the house and raise funds for the Foundation from 9-11 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, at B.B. King’s Restaurant & Blues Club during InfoComm 2011.

Originating as a casual, after-work jam session more than 10 years ago, the Drunk Unkles began organizing benefit concerts for families of industry professionals. Its first fundraising effort resulted in a college fund for two small children of a colleague who unexpectedly passed away.

This blues band is made up of the industry peers of Felix Robinson of AVI-SPL; “Unkle” Steve Emspak of Shen Milsom & Wilke; Marc Hochlerin of Cerami & Associates; Mike “The Pie” Phillips of Hudson Marketing Inc.; Johnny “Bottom” Cardone of Cardone Solomon and Associates; and “Aunt” Lisa Wenger of Bosch Communications Systems.

“Partnering with the NSCA Education Foundation is a great tradition,” Emspak said. “The Unks are pleased to help the industry when it comes to supporting the next generation of integrators, as well as through efforts to support colleagues in need. This is a great opportunity for everyone to let loose and enjoy the music that brought many of us to this industry in the first place.”

The band has been involved with the NSCA Education Foundation for more than seven years, raising more than $450,000 for Foundation initiatives.

This year’s sponsors include platinum sponsor, AMX; gold sponsor, Christie Digital Systems; silver sponsors RPVisual Solutions and SurgeX; bronze sponsors BARCO, Chief Manufacturing, FSR and NEC; and contributing sponsors AVI-SPL; Advance Sound Company; Bosch Communications Systems; Cardone, Solomon & Associates, Inc.; Cerami & Associaties, Inc.; Shen Milsom & Wilke; and Synnex Visual Solutions. Stop by one of these booths during the show or visit the NSCA booth to pick up a free invitation to the concert.

“The charity events of the NSCA Education Foundation during InfoComm are a great way to bring the systems integration community together to network, raise money for a good cause and have some fun,” said Barbra Snitker, NSCA Education Foundation managing director. “The industry charity concert, in particular, is our way to show systems integrators that we appreciate all the hard work they do throughout the year.”
