Daktronics of Brookings, S.D., recently launched the new V-Link 4500 video processor along with the largest high-definition video display in collegiate sports at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. The multimillion-dollar display and control system is scheduled to debut for the 2006 Longhorns’ season opener on Sept. 2.

Designed specifically for LED technology, the V-Link processor accepts standard- and high-definition production feeds for any Daktronics LED video display. The 4500 release adds component HD and additional SDI/HD-SDI inputs, VGA and DVI support, and monitor-out capabilities. Like its predecessors, it can also seamlessly switch processor inputs, break a display into multiple video zones, and overlay live information.

“The V-Link 4500 processor demonstrates Daktronics’ relentless efforts to provide our LED video display customers with industry-leading video processing performance and a wide variety of input options,” says Glenn Luke, Daktronics control systems product manager. “This V-Link adds additional support for high-definition/high-resolution signals that are becoming more common.”

Powering the added feature set and leading video quality of the V-Link 4500 processor is the Gennum GF9351 processor with VXP technology. “Superior video processing is especially important in sports viewing,” says Craig Thompson, manager, product marketing, image processing products at Gennum Corporation. “The display must be able to offer an experience that parallels watching the players in person. Daktronics required a processor that could handle computation-intensive video processing in realtime, and they recognized that Gennum’s GF9351 Image Processor with VXP technology is the only processor powerful enough to provide the required level of clarity and definition for a screen this large. Together, we will offer the industry standard for large-scale video displays.”

“The Gennum GF9351 was selected after a year of extensive tests of all available solutions,” said Luke. “The quality of the Gennum solution quickly became apparent during tests with very large high-resolution signs. Gennum’s processing system allows us to set a new standard for video realism and processing flexibility.”
