The performance of the extender from DVIGear was extremely impressive. It was able to pass a high-quality signal at 550ft. using Cat-6 cable, which was the second greatest distance of all extenders tested. It was the top performer using Cat-5 cable and worked at a distance of 425ft. When it arrived we noticed that it was packaged neatly and it is one of the few extenders that have Ethernet passthrough and bi-directional IR. The HDMI 1.4 spec supports Ethernet in the HDMI signal, and this extender uses that feature by providing an Ethernet input at the transmitter and an Ethernet jack at the receiver. Even though the cost is one of the higher ones tested, this feature can be invaluable if multiple cables cannot be run to a remote location. By using a single Cat cable, the integrator can pass HDMI signal, RS-232, IR, and Ethernet to a remote display. It supports remote power through Cat-X cable, which means power only has to be applied at one end. This model has indicator lights that help with troubleshooting and diagnostics. The lights will either stay lit or flash steadily based on the link and signal status. The lights turn off or blink erratically when not working. The lights are solid when powered and linked.
