Panasonic’s DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player is the first on the market to support Final Standard Profile, which adds picture-in-picture functionality to the HD format’s bag of tricks. Content providers can make use of the PIP with director commentary and a wide variety of supplemental information tied specifically to a place in the movie.

Consumers can switch to the extras without leaving the movie by pressing a button on the remote control, and they can switch the audio between content on the main screen and the PIP window. The 1080/24p player has an SC card slot and can play back video shot in the AVCHD format found on Panasonic HD camcorders. The player also supports Deep Color as part of the HDMI 1.3 specification.
