The extender set from QVS is marketed as a four-in-one solution because it is able to pass HDMI, Ethernet, RS-232, and IR over a single Cat cable. It has many other features that are present on other extenders, but no other extender has all of the features of the QVS bundled together in the same set. This product has a three-port Ethernet switch on both the transmitter and receiver. There is a built-in HDMI distribution amp on the transmitter, which allows a local mirrored signal to be sent out an HDMI port while the Cat cable carries the same signal to a distant receiver. There is a 5V power supply needed at the transmitter and the receiver draws power from the same power supply. It has a MSRP price of $699, but is readily available through Internet retailers for close to $500. There are extensive lights on the unit for diagnostics. A light indicated the presence of a remote TX or RX signal. There is a power light and a multi-function link light showing presence of HDCP content, link status, and the link mode. For each of the Ethernet ports there are lights showing full duplex, the network speed, and the link status of that particular port. The same lights are duplicated on both units for one of the most extensive diagnostic capabilities of any extender reviewed. The performance with Cat-6 cables was right at the average out of all extenders tested. The website only listed performance specs for Cat-6 cable and based on the results using Cat-5, it was evident that this product is not designed for use with standard Cat-5 cable. Based on the real-world price, this unit is one of the more versatile units available and certainly a good value for all of the features available.
