On-wall speakers are one way that high-end speaker designers are hoping to survive in the flatpanel TV world. On-wall subwoofers present one of the biggest challenges for acoustical designers because of the air-movement requirements of low-frequency drivers. The SubRosa is veteran engineer Bob Carver’s latest effort to design a compact and thin subwoofer for today’s consumer. Designed to be a space-saving, low-visibility solution for architectural audio, Sunfire’s SubRosa subwoofers are built with Sunfire’s StillBass anti-shake technology that’s said to reduce unwanted wall vibrations and deliver clean, tight bass.
SubRosa works with the I-BEAM, a device inside the enclosure that creates opposing forces to reduce mechanical vibration. The I-BEAM creates opposing forces that reduce mechanical vibrations caused by the movement of SubRosa’s 10in. woofers. When the woofers move out, the I-BEAM moves in (and vice versa).The SRS-210W was designed to fit into a standard 2×4 wall cavity.
