There are two products from Zigen that are virtually identical in appearance: the HVX-70 and the HVX-100. The case and form factor is the same for each unit with the only difference being what is inside of the case and the labeling on the outside. The unit tested in this instance is the HVX-70. It has the distinction of being the least expensive extender set of the entire review. The performance is limited, but still quite impressive when the cost is taken into consideration. There are some limitations when compared to the flagship Zigen product, but the build and quality were not hampered due to the price. The unit is very solid and surprisingly heavy for its small size. There are flanges on both ends for easy mounting, and like the other Zigen extenders, it has the same type of screw-on power supply to ensure a solid and reliable power connection. The transmitter and receiver look almost the same, and you have to look carefully to find the small letters TX and RX on the top of the unit to distinguish them. The power supply provided has connections to work in the U.S., A.U., E.U., and U.K. Even though the set is inexpensive, there are still diagnostic lights to indicate power, mode, link, and HCDP. For many applications where a great distance is not needed, this extender can be perfect for the application. It can also save the integrator money if a higher priced unit had been initially budgeted and the requirements fall within the realm of what this extender is able to handle.
