MORE TECHNOLOGY AND TRAINING

This year, InfoComm 06, to be held June 3-9, 2006, in Orlando, Fla., offers more of everything to AV pros. There’s more technology — more than 10,000 products are being shown; more training — more than 250 sessions will be offered; and more networking — 28,000 others involved in AV and information communications make InfoComm their annual must-attend trade show. Platinum show sponsors include Barco, Crestron, Extron, Sony, Tandberg, and Telex; gold show sponsors include Christie Digital and Thomson Grass Valley.

An expected 750 companies will showcase cutting-edge solutions in audio, video, displays, digital signage, lighting, projection, collaborative conferencing, networking, and many other areas. Pavilions and special demos help visitors focus on specific areas of technology: Digital Content Creation, Digital Signage, Audio, Collaborative Conferencing, Lighting and Staging, Audio, and EduComm’s “Tomorrow’s Classroom Today.”

The brand-new System Programming and GUI Design Gallery, sponsored by Crestron, highlights the creative results of the work of independent programmers. The Large Venue Display Gallery, sponsored by Extron, offers the latest in HD projection and display for sports venues, concerts, and other applications.

InfoComm visitors can also immerse themselves in audio demo rooms and HD conferencing demos, as well as rigging and staging demonstrations from The ESTA Foundation.

With all there is to see at InfoComm, be sure to take advantage of InfoComm Connect, a service that matches your interests with available exhibitors and sessions to help you make the most of your time at the show. All registrants receive information about using InfoComm Connect.

Educational offerings round out the InfoComm experience, with sessions of all lengths and types available from InfoComm Academy, EduComm (for higher education and K-12 administrators), Syn-Aud-Con (a four-day design class for audio experts), IMCCA (on all types of conferencing), the Projection Summit’s fifth annual conference, CMMA (providing instruction for media managers), Network Computing’s AV-IT Educational series, POPAI (providing a digital signage track), and the Loudspeaker and Speech Intelligibility Workshop from Technology Visions, in addition to training provided by InfoComm exhibitors. Yes, it’s a lot to take in, but the sheer scope of the professional instruction is aligned with InfoComm’s scope as the Information Communications Marketplace.

InfoComm Academy has planned nearly 100 two-hour seminars and four workshops with brand-new sessions focusing on project management, digital signage, AV/IT, homeland security, staging, live sound, advanced audio, HD, edge blending, wireless, and more.

Super Tuesday workshops on June 7 include the all-new “Designing in the Digital Age”; “Digital Signage”; “Government and Corporate AV Information Security”; “Is the Residential Market Right for Your Company?”; “Rental & Staging Management & Operations”; and the executive-level, Project Management Institute-endorsed “Project Management Overview” — along with other intensive hands-on training.

The Institute for Professional Development, held June 3-5, includes “Design School Level 2: Facilities Design” (new); “Lighting for Videoconference and Presentation Spaces” (new); “Project Management: Competencies and Structure” (new), customized for the AV industry and approved by PMI; “Certification Prep”; and several others.

Members of InfoComm can keep even busier by participating in the annual council and committee meetings held at the show. If you are a member, check the schedule for details.

Technology, education, events, networking, solutions, and real-world applications — you’ll find it all at InfoComm 06. Register today at infocommshow.org.

COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION

In order to foster the growth opportunities that come with advancing knowledge, NSCA offers numerous education and training opportunities throughout the year.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION PROGRAM LAUNCHED

New to these offerings is the NSCA Certificate of Completion Program (CCP), launched at this year’s Systems Integration Expo conference and exhibition. Now, participants in NSCA University programs can work toward a Certificate of Completion, which will be awarded after they attain 24 Learning Units (LUs) over three years within one of six new colleges: College of Allied Professionals, College of Business, College of Project Management (courses designed for project managers and support staff) College of System Design, College of Systems Sales, and the College of Technical Knowledge.

EXECUTIVE/MANAGEMENT EDUCATION

Industry members can take advantage of an opportunity for management-level training at the annual NSCA Fall Business Conference, scheduled for Oct. 26-28, 2006, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. This two-and-a-half-day conference offers practical tactics for growth through its Executive and Management seminar tracks. Kicking off the top-tier training this fall will be keynote speaker Pat Richie, founder and president of the Sports Leadership Group. Richie has more than 20 years’ experience teaching leadership, ethics, and business, in addition to three Super Bowl Rings earned during his time with the San Francisco 49ers.

MARKET INTELLIGENCE

Perhaps the most important education is increasing customer awareness. As revealed in the Second Quarter 2006 Market Intelligence Briefing just made available by NSCA, all of the most significant factors associated with the commoditization of electronic systems relate to customer groups being under-educated about the importance of quality electronic systems and all the aspects of design, product, and execution. The majority of respondents to the survey indicated that they view commoditization as either a moderate or high current threat to the industry.

EXPO 2007

Making the industry’s value known to the customers will require continuing education and certification efforts, which makes that crucial time when NSCA education once again converges with the technology exhibition at the NSCA Expo 2007 all the more important. The show will take place March 15-17, 2007, in Orlando, Fla. The numbers at Expo 2006 prove that NSCA education leads the industry: Course enrollment was up 15 percent over that in 2005, and more than 23 percent of courses and seminars were sold out.

INDUSTRY SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION FOUNDATION

As a further testament to the success of NSCA’s education programs, at the expo this year, the NSCA Education Foundation announced a $10,000 contribution from Lectrosonics — the company’s third contribution in four years. Lectrosonics is a Gold Club supporter of the foundation, with a total contribution of more than $25,000. The foundation supports the educational efforts of professionals entering the industry and industry members seeking continuing education.
