The 45,000-square-foot club spans two levels with a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces, more than 30 zones in all, each with their own acoustics problems and none of which were mitigated by traditional acoustical treatments or best practices. In this situation, choice of equipment and network became the only acoustics tools that designer and integrator Bob Athey had to work with. For the long, narrow dance floor with its 20ft. ceilings he reached into his stable of Martin Audio loudspeakers for six WLXGS subs for their horn-loaded abilities and enough throw to fill the space; likewise 12 H3H+ tops overhead helped get the sound back to the dance floor. “The processing was also key," Athey said of the QSC Q-Sys networked distribution system comprising 50 PowerLight amplifiers and a range of networked I/O and processing that optimizes and controls the nearly 200 speakers.

“It’s the best-sounding distributed audio system I’ve heard, and I’ve always praised its ease of use”—something that comes in handy with 30 zones to wrangle. Athey is currently in the process of expanding off the current Q-Sys Core 1000 with two Core 3000s and additional I/Os to give the club the ability to route anything anywhere.
