Open ceiling environments in retail, restaurant, hospitality, and corporate installations require surface-mount loudspeakers. Altec Lansing’s Professional Audio Division announces the expansion of the CommStar Cat-5 digital loudspeaker system line, with the addition of the model SV6 wall-mount / surface-mount loudspeaker system.

The SV6 features the same high-definition 6.5in. Duplex drivers and electronics that are used in the CV6 powered digital ceiling loudspeaker system. The SV6 uses the same power supplies and Cat-5 Digital Power Link technology as the CV6 ceiling loudspeaker.

“Systems integrators and their clients tell us how important it is that the wall-mount speakers and ceiling speakers have the same coverage and frequency response in mixed-use installations. Combining the CV6 ceiling speaker and SV6 wall-mount speaker insures a smooth transition as you move throughout the space,” explains Stan Shields, vice president and general manager of the professional division.

John Sexton, Altec’s vice president of sales, has been demonstrating CommStar for systems integrators over the past eight months. “CommStar’s digital audio performance is a vast improvement over analog 70V distributed sound systems. The Plug+Play Cat-5 system architecture delivers pristine, noise-free audio. CommStar is the first new technology in distributed audio since the introduction of the preassembled ceiling speaker over a decade ago.”
