Smart Technologies announces the release of its new rear-projection Smart Board 4000i interactive whiteboard. A touch-sensitive display, the 4000i has the highest resolution and the largest screen size in its class. New features include a 3000-lumen SXGA DLP projector (1400×1050 resolution) with a short-throw lens and a contrast ratio of 2500:1. The 4000i also comes with new screen technology that delivers uniform, ultra-crisp visuals for applications, such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems), used during briefings, debriefings, and command-and-control operations.

The 4000i features a high-resolution, 66in (168cm) shadow-free screen, housed in an all-in-one mobile multimedia cabinet. Integrated projector controls are located at the front of the unit to make start-up and operation simple and convenient. Users control computer applications and access files and the Internet simply by touching the interactive whiteboard. No special tools are required to write in digital ink over software applications, including moving video. Notes can be edited, saved, printed, and posted online or e-mailed for future reference. By using Bridgit conferencing software with the 4000i, users can create a truly collaborative environment. Bridgit software allows users to quickly and easily share realtime voice, video, and data. Users can take over applications on a participant’s computer or write notes in digital ink for all conference participants to see.

Some new features include the touch system using DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology that uses cameras in the corners of the screen to identify touch. Users simply touch the screen to activate mouse functions or write in digital ink without a proprietary pen. The 4000i also has new screen technology that uniformly distributes brightness across the entire interactive whiteboard and is equipped with Smart Board software for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux operating systems.

Pricing and availability

The rear-projection SMART Board 4000i interactive whiteboard ships in February 2007 at a suggested list price of US$22,999. For additional information, specifications, or authorized resellers, visit www.smarttech.com.
