AMX Puts VoIP into Control Systems
AMX said that it would use voice over IP (VoIP) technology to add telephone functionality to its control systems.
At Integrated Systems Europe, AMX said that it would use voice over IP (VoIP) technology to add telephone functionality to its control systems. The company’s new SIP Communications Gateways employ Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), as well as VoIP, to extend the features and functionality of an AMX Control System beyond traditional device and environmental control.
“The new SIP Communications Gateways are the next step in our VoIP strategy, which began with our VoIP intercom-enabled Modero Touch Panels and was followed by the launch of our Metreau Entry Communicator line,” said Robert Noble, AMX chief technology officer, in a statement. “With those pieces in place, the time is right for AMX to extend our VoIP portfolio to include infrastructure components that bridge the digital divide.”
Combined with an AMX Control System, for example, the SIP Communications Gateways can add IP phone and/or building intercom functionality to the company’s Modero Touch Panels, which provide enhanced G.711 telephone-voice-quality sound (70 dB SPL @ 1 meter). The systems will also offer full PBX (private branch exchange) functionality, according to AMX.
Each gateway supports up to 50 users and 25 concurrent calls. They are scheduled to be available in March 2008. Pricing was not immediately available.
