Atlantic Technology introduced two dipole/bipole switchable surround loudspeakers to its IWTS line of architectural speakers. The IWTS-30 SR and the IWTS-14 SR each feature dual two-way driver arrays, but only the IWTS-30 SR is THX Ultra certified; the IWTS-14 SR has the same features except with less extended bass output.
The IWTS-30 SR features two 5.25-inch graphite loaded homopolymer woofers and two 1-inch soft dome tweeters, and has a linear response of 80 Hz to 20 kHz (+/-3 dB). Both models boast a simplified dogleg installation system. To meet THX specifications, the left and right surround models must operate in a dipole mode, where each of the two driver banks operates out of phase with one another to create a diffuse, non-localizable sound. The IWTS-30 SR and the IWTS-14 SR feature a front-panel toggle that allows installers to select either dipole or bipole operation, to meet their listening material, setup, and preferences. The IWTS-30 SR pair is available for $1,350 and the IWTS-14 SR pair retails for $1,000.
