Canon Upgrades with REALiS SX800
Canon U.S.A. recently rolled out the latest in its line of REALiS multimedia projectors, the REALiS SX800. Offering 3,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 900:1, the SX800 is Canon’s affordable solution for XGA users wanting to upgrade to a higher-resolution SXGA+ projector.

Canon U.S.A. recently rolled out the latest in its line of REALiS multimedia projectors, the REALiS SX800. Offering 3,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 900:1, the SX800 is Canon’s affordable solution for XGA users wanting to upgrade to a higher-resolution SXGA+ projector.
Company officials said the benefits of the REALiS SX800 include a larger desktop area (almost 87 percent more pixels), widescreen notebook and desktop computer support (WXGA uncompressed), and a display of 720p HD video uncompressed (also supports 1080p HD).
The SX800’s 0.55-inch LCOS reflective LCD panels help deliver lattice-free motion and still images, according to the company, practically eliminating any so-called “screen door effect.” The panels are a part of Canon’s AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) Optical Engine, which projects vibrant colors and high contrast and brightness while maintaining a compact body design.
“Now that presentation professionals are using higher resolution notebook and desktop computers, they are insisting on using higher resolution projectors to accurately display their content,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager of Canon’s Consumer Imaging Group. “And in today’s economy, these professionals are demanding higher resolution projectors at more affordable prices.”
At 11 pounds, the REALiS SX800 includes features found on higher-end REALiS models, such as a Canon 1.5x zoom lens designed with special components and coatings to ensure quality image reproduction and minimize glare and ghosting. The zoom lens also allows users to easily change the screen size to accommodate different presentation venues and situations. Keystone correction is aided by a 10:0 Lens Offset feature and provided as part of the Auto Set Up features, along with Auto Input Signal, which selects a notebook computer, DVD player, or other device when connected to the unit. A new Auto Flesh Tone feature processes images to give skin color areas a more natural look, says the company.
The REALiS SX800 is scheduled to be available this month with an MSRP of $2,499.
