Digital video processors

The DVPHD-PRO high-definition digital video processor from Crestron Electronics accepts up to eight source signals and displays them in up to eight scalable video windows simultaneously. Featuring input and output resolutions up to 1920x1200 for RGB and DVI signals, and supporting 1080i and 1080p HDTV, the DVPHD-PRO handles HDMI with external adaptors. According to the company, true 10-bit video processing and the latest generation of high-definition scaling and de-interlacing ensure high-quality video images. Price: $8,000 to $17,000. Universal projector mounts

Designed to accommodate projectors weighing up to 75 pounds, the universal projector mount from Premier Mounts is a low-profile mount for retail, corporate, hospitality, and education applications. The PDS Plus is designed to meet precise projector positioning and speed installation. Featuring the company's Lock-It Security System, the unit offers four axis, tilt, and rotational adjustments. Matrix switcher

The MTPX Plus Series of Twisted Pair Matrix Switchers from Extron Electronics features dynamic skew compensation, RS-232 control signal insertion, local audio/video inputs and outputs, and level and peaking compensation. Available in six fixed I/O sizes from 8x16 to 32x32, the switchers are capable of routing high-resolution video and audio signals 1,000 feet or more over CAT-5, 5e, or 6 UTP cable. Each model enables distribution of RGBHV, RGBS, RGsB, RsGsBs, component video, S-video, and composite video signals in either new or existing construction projects. According to the company, the MTPX Plus Series works well with the new Extron MTP U Series Universal Mini Twisted Pair Receivers. Together, they enable the distribution of composite video, S-video, component video, HDTV component video, and RGB computer video, along with mono audio or control signals on a single cable. Transmitter and receiver

Adding two new products to its twisted pair line of long distance audio/video products, Kramer Electronics has launched the TP-45 (pictured above) and TP-46. According to the company, the TP-45 transmitter and TP-46 receiver simplify the routing of either computer graphics video or component video, along with either unbalanced analog stereo audio or S/PDIF digital audio signals over UTP CAT-5 cable. The TP-45 transmitter accepts a computer graphics video signal on a 15-pin HD connector with resolutions up to UGXA and a component video signal (Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr) on 3 RCA connectors with resolutions up to 1080p. The TP-45 also accepts an unbalanced analog stereo audio signal on a 3.5mm mini jack connector and an S/PDIF digital audio signal on an RCA connector. The audio signal on the TP-46 is distributed simultaneously to the analog and digital audio outputs. The TP-45 converts the signal for transmission over a standard UTP CAT-5 type twisted pair cable up to 330 feet, where it is transformed back into its original audio and video signal formats by the TP-46. Media system

Expanding its Adagio line, Crestron Electronics has launched the Adagio Media System (AMS), adding surround sound processing and video for home theater as well as whole house audio distribution. The AMS features the Adagio integrated architecture including built-in tuners, amplifier, multi-room processors, Crestron 2-Series control system, e-Control web browser, and Ethernet connectivity with front panel control. The AMS-AIP model adds video scaling up to 1080p and on-screen display. It also features a surround sound processor and powerful 7-channel amplifier (100 watts per channel) designed to drive any 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 theater speaker system. AMS supplies 10 analog stereo inputs, one analog 7.1 surround input, and built-in high-definition video switching, handling 3 HDMI, 6 HDTV/component, 4 S-Video, and 4 composite sources. Price: N/A. Distribution amplifiers

Kramer Electronics offers the VM-28HDMI 2 input 1:8 HDMI distribution amplifier and the VM-216HDMI 2 input 1:16 HDMI distribution amplifier. The VM-28HDMI allows the distribution of one of two HDMI input sources to eight destinations, and the VM-216HDMI allows distribution of one of two HDMI input sources to 16 destinations. The VM-28HDMI and VM-216HDMI are both HDCP-compliant and support up to 1.65Gb/s bandwidth to ensure compatibility with all HDTV standards, including 1080p/60 signals. Both models also feature enhanced extended display identification data (EDID) operation. Each unit can read a separate EDID in non-volatile memory or provide the default EDID of 720p if one is not stored. Wall-mount docking station

The TPMC-8X-DSW wall-mount docking station from Crestron Electronics facilitates charging of the TPMC-8X WiFi touch-panel while enabling fully wired touchpanel operation. This unit is the latest wireless touchpanel from Crestron communicating via 802.11a/b/g and integrating a host of technologies, including Windows XP operating system and PC applications, biometric fingerprint scanner, NetMeeting, Skype, Bluetooth, and more. While docked, the TPMC-8X is secured in place by an electronic latch. When released, the mechanism extends the touchpanel outward, ready to be disengaged for wireless use. All functions of the docking station can also be controlled programmatically from the control system via Ethernet, and through the company's RoomView remote management software. On the rear of the TPMC-8X-DSW, a 10/100 Ethernet port provides for direct connection to a wired LAN, allowing fully wired operation of the touchpanel while docked. Two USB ports are included to support a wired mouse and keyboard (not included). A professional balanced stereo audio output provides a means of amplifying or redistributing streaming audio from the touchpanel's embedded media player applications. Price: N/A. Matrix switcher

Gefen's new 4x4 HDMI CAT-5 Matrix comes equipped with four HDMI inputs and four HDMI/CAT-5 outputs. According to the company, any one of the four sources can be assigned to one of the four outputs and extended up to 330 feet with full HDCP-compliance using an IR remote control. The switcher works with all set top boxes, HD DVD, and Blu-Ray disk players and game systems as well as HDTV displays and projectors equipped with HDMI. Each of four receivers can be placed up to 330 feet from the unit. With the 4x4 HDMI CAT-5 Matrix, HDTV sources and displays are integrated in plug and play fashion, while high-definition resolutions are supported up to 1080p. Price: $1,999. Steel stud adapters

Chief Manufacturing announces the availability of new steel stud swing arms for 10- to 50-inch flat panel displays up to 125 pounds. The company offers the UL-listed FWDSK fully assembled swing arm mount (pictured above) and the FSA1018 single stud wall plate for small flat panel displays (10 to 26 inches). Chief also offers the FWGSK swing arm mount, which is not yet UL listed. The JWDSK swing arm mount and MAC118 dual stud wall plate for medium flat panel displays (27 to 40 inches) are compatible with 16-/20-/24-inch center studs and UL listed for 16-inch center studs. For large flat panel displays (30 to 50 inches), the MWRSK and PWRSK swing arms, and the MAC119 multiple stud wall plate accessory, are compatible with 16-/20-/24-inch center studs and UL listed for 16-inch centers. Rackshelf

Middle Atlantic Products recently unveiled its re-engineered RSH Custom Rackshelf. According to the company, as active components trend wider and exhaust heat from the side, the enhanced RSH Custom Rackshelf provides increased ventilation on the sides as well as the base. The unit also features three new application-engineered ‘L' brackets that are narrower to fit between the connections on the back of components, preventing components from sliding backwards. LCD displays

The AQUOS HDTV D64U Series (models LC-65D64U, LC-52D64U, LC-46D64U and LC-42D64U) of LCD televisions is available in 65-, 52-, 46- and 42-inch screen sizes from Sharp Electronics Corp. These new Energy Star-compliant models feature a thin, lightweight bezel that provides a significantly smaller footprint than previous models, according to the company. They also offer full 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution and the latest generation of the company's proprietary Advanced Super View LCD panel, providing a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and response time of 4ms. Rounding out the enhanced list of specs is the D64U's array of inputs, including three HDMI inputs (with one on the side for easy access) and two HD component video inputs (all 1080p compatible), an RS-232C input for control, and a PC input. Home theater projector

Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America announces its latest 1080p home theater projector, the HC6000. Enhancing its HC5000 model with Texas Instruments' BrilliantColor upgrade for richer colors and greater performance in clear high-definition resolution, the new HC6000 offers a contrast ratio of 12,000:1. According to the company, an improved auto iris function allows quicker light to black image adjustment. In addition, the unit includes Silicon Optix's Reon processing chip internally, resulting in a small, efficient form factor. Two HDMI inputs and a motorized zoom/focus and lens shift provide installation flexibility. Price: N/A. Flat panel mounts

A new line of custom and universal mounts from Chief Manufacturing is designed to integrate with 30- to 50-inch plasma and LCD TVs. The MSR fixed wall mount and MTR tilt wall mount feature Q-Latch integrated security, an expanded wall plate opening for cable management, and integrated lateral shift. The MWR swing arm wall mount offers up to 25 inches of extension and features Centris technology for fingertip tilt adjustment, Q-Latch integrated security, CableTrac for routing cables, and mounting guides for easy installation. Also featuring Centris technology for fingertip tilt adjustment and Q-Latch integrated security, the MCS single ceiling mount boasts portrait or landscape mounting capability. Flat panel display

RevolutionHD flat panel displays from Electrograph Systems are available in 32-, 37-, 42-, 46-, and 50-inch sizes. According to the company, because the displays are certified by the Imaging Science Foundation for precision calibration, installers can add more value by using special controls to fine-tune the image for both bright and dark environments. Once calibrated, picture quality is optimized with a press of a button. Offering enhanced 1080i video processing and PC and HDTV compatibility, the line includes RS-232 control, split screen picture-in-picture, robust calibration controls, and portrait/landscape mounting. All displays come with a “Quick-Swap” advanced replacement program, which gets a new replacement unit on the way within days during the first year of ownership to ensure minimal downtime and maximum productivity. Wireless speaker system

SpeakerCast from Soundcast Systems is a wireless compact, amplified stereo speaker enclosure incorporating two full range drivers, a 50 watt per channel digital amplifier, and the Soundcast receiver. The unit transmits signals up 150 feet through multiple rooms indoors, includes iCast transmitter for use with the apple iPod, and allows connection of other audio devices (MP3 players and computers) using the auxiliary input/output jack on the iCast transmitter. Available in white and charcoal gray, the product features pause/play and track forward/track back controls for remote operation of the iPod and features SRS 3D sound field expansion. The included remote offers the same features, in addition to on/off, volume up/down, and a mute button. Auralex Acoustics has announced that its SpaceCoupler recently passed the requirements of a “Class B” fire-rating and testing in accordance with ASTM E84, a standard test for surface burning characteristics of building materials that calculates both flame spread and smoke densities. Still undergoing final acoustical testing, the SpaceCoupler optimizes acoustical environments for a wide range of performance and recording styles, according to the company. Strong and lightweight, the 24-inch by 24-inch solid wood panels can be used in a variety of placement options, including “T-bar” grids. Price: $299. Media room furniture

The new Elysium media room comfort system from Elite Screens offers a curved form configuration, providing a superior viewing angle over traditional in-line seating, according to the company. Available in 100% black or dark brown leather, the product features fold-down armrests and an ottoman with internal media storage space. A hidden floor-level sliding compartment preserves the appearance of the media room by providing an easy-access sliding storage solution for additional media players, game systems, and software right below the loveseat. Connectors

The MaxBlox CD-MX9M (male) and CD-MX9F (female) DB9 connectors from BTX Technologies will be on display. These patent-pending professional 9-pin D-sub connectors feature a rugged design, allowing installers to terminate a DB9 with a screwdriver. According to the company, the connectors can be panel- or cable-mounted in a MaxBlox CD-MX915H hood in a fraction of the time it would take to solder. When used in conjunction with the hood, these connectors slide, snap, and lock into the hood without the use of tools. Optimized for use in RS-232 or RS-422 applications, the DB9 connectors are manufactured with industry standard Phoenix Contact terminal blocks. Loudspeakers

New from Leon Speaker Corp., the Leon Seven Series uses high-end drivers, including two hand-made German Eton 7-inch patented HEXACONE long throw woofers, and the Raven R2 True Ribbon tweeter (all aluminum diaphragm) from Orca. The product boasts a 40 Hz to 50 kHz frequency response and a power rating of 250 watts. According to the company, the Seven Series offers detailed high frequencies and powerful bass — the baffle is 1.25 inches thick, minimizing unwanted resonance and vibrations. The loudspeaker measures 11 inches by 38 inches by 6 inches, and the interior of the cabinet is reinforced with solid MDF and includes proprietary sound diffusion and diffraction materials. Power conditioners

Furman Sound will be demonstrating its redesigned Elite i-Series of power conditioners. In addition to the technologies that made the original Elite Series popular, such as linear filtering echnology (LiFT) and non-sacrificial surge suppression, new 12-volt triggering adds remote control capabilities to these new power conditioners. Video cables

Kramer Electronics is showcasing its new C-R3VM/R3VM and C-R4VM/R4VM series of high-performance component video cables. Built from high-resolution mini coax cable, the C-R3VM/R3VM family (pictured above) has three conductors for component video (Y Pb Pr/Y Cb Cr/Y R-Y B-Y and YUV) signal use, and the C-R4VM/R4VM offers four conductors: three for the video signals, and one for digital audio (S/PDIF, Dolby Digital, DTS, Pro Logic II, etc). The cables come in standard lengths of 3, 6, 10, 15, 25, 35 and 50 feet. Power conditioners

Furman Sound will be showcasing its redesigned Reference i-Series of power conditioners, made with black steel and silver brushed aluminum complemented by clear blue LED lights. In addition to the technologies included in the original Reference Series, such as discrete symmetrically balanced power, linear filtering technology (LiFT), and non-sacrificial surge suppression, the IT-Reference 15i and IT-Reference 20i have been optimized with dual screen technology that, according to the company, provides more than 30 percent greater noise reduction capabilities. Fixed frame projection screen

Available in sizes from 84 inches to 200 inches and featuring a 3.5-inch annodized aluminum frame with light-absorbing velour surface, the Dream Window is the newest addition to the Elite Prime Vision product line from Elite Screens. When assembled, the 2-inch flat strap sliding brackets allow easy installation with adjustable horizontal centering, according to the company. The screen projection surface is black-backed to eliminate light penetration and comes in three different materials in either a solid or perforated acoustically transparent format. The CineWhite Tension White PVC material has a 1.1 gain that provides high-quality color reproduction with DLP/LCD projectors. The PowerGain High Gain White Material has a 1.8 gain and uses its reflectivity to enhance color reproduction with low-output DLP/LCD projectors. Wall mount

Premier Mount's in-wall box is a mounting option that allows the box to be recessed into the wall, providing a high-end finished appearance to HDTV/LCD displays by resting flush against the wall and concealing mount equipment and cabling. The boxes are designed for use with the company's universal flat-panel TV mounts. For example, a swingout arm mount can tilt, adjust, and move the TV in a variety of optimal viewing positions. Speaker adapters for flat panel mounts

Chief Manufacturing has unveiled new side and center channel speaker adapters for integration into flat panel wall installations. According to the company, the PACLR1 left/right speaker adapter and PACCC1 center channel speaker adapter feature advanced adjustability to position speakers flush with the screen. The new speaker adapters fit flat panel TVs up to 50 inches and are compatible with the company's medium and large mounting solutions. The PACCC1 provides up to 5 inches of height adjustment while the PACLR1 reaches a fully extended width of almost 54 inches. Both products ship pre-assembled and include cable management clips. Video processor

Anchor Bay is debuting its DVDO iScan VP50PRO. According to the company, this product is the world's first video processor to feature THX certification, which signifies that a product has met a series of rigorous theater-quality standards, and to use HDMI 1.3 receiver/transmitter chips, allowing users to connect other HDMI-compliant 1.3 devices that support high-resolution audio formats and Deep Color (available on some newer sources like HD-DVD Blu-Ray and PS3). The VP50PRO is the culmination of all of the company's Video Reference Series (VRS) technologies, including mosquito noise reduction, fine detail enhancement, and edge enhancement, which greatly improve the quality of compressed and low-resolution content coming from STBs, DVRs, DVD, IPTV, and other digital media devices when viewed on high-resolution displays. Outdoor speaker system

Soundcast Systems will showcase OutCast, an all-weather, full-range, battery/AC-operated wireless speaker system designed to provide high-performance, full-range music in the yard or patio. Featuring an iCast transmitter for use with the Apple iPod, the unit allows connection of other audio devices (MP3 players and computers) using the auxiliary input/output jack. It also transmits signals up to 350 feet outdoors and features buttons for pause/play and track forward/track back for remote iPod operation. The system includes one 8-inch downward firing woofer, four 3-inch high-frequency drivers in an omni-directional array, 100-watt digital amplifier, and an internal AC power supply that can recharge the NiMH battery pack and operate the system at the same time.
