Commercial AV: Going Strong

Despite the buzz about growth opportunities in the house of worship market, studies show that the commercial market has the most new construction, which should mean more opportunities for AV installation and integration.

DESPITE THE BUZZ ABOUT GROWTH opportunities in the house of worship market, studies show that the commercial market has the most new construction, which should mean more opportunities for AV installation and integration. New construction accounts for 75 percent of the total AV market, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and InfoComm International’s “Business Trends Report Issue 2.”

From July 2007 through September 2007, there was growth in most AV vertical markets; however, commercial construction remained steady at over $75,000 per average AV job size during those months and since September 2006. Following nearly $25,000 behind is the corporate, or office, market. The house of worship market is last in the standings, which could reflect little new construction or simply frugal new construction. A year-to-year comparison of construction growth across the eight surveyed markets shows a net growth for total construction and for each vertical, with the exception of the religious and amusement/recreation markets. Increased adoption of IT-based AV applications, such as digital signage and videoconferencing, are also driving growth in these top markets.
