Cross-Vertical Solutions

Sometimes the best answer to your AV problem is a fresh approach borrowed from another market segment. Here are four projects that conquered their challenges with solutions that are adaptable to almost any AV project.

Head of the Class: Education

Creative Corporate Communications: Corporate

Sweet Sounds of Success: Broadcast/Recording Studio

Lofty Presentation: Rental Staging

WE ALL KNOW THAT there is no such thing as a typical project in pro AV. Despite using the best planning techniques, holding countless meetings, and making piles of documents, sometimes there are unrealistic expectations — and there always seems to be surprises. It’s how you deal with them that helps determines how successful you are as a systems integrator or consultant.

While recording studios are not a typical installation project for many AV pros, technical lessons from recording/broadcasting professionals can be applied to other installation challenges.

AV pros find their business in many different vertical market subsegments, including corporate, education, residential, house of worship, government, or any one of a number of smaller customer groups. But any seasoned veteran will tell you that although there are differences among them, there are AV needs that are common to many. Sometimes the best solutions are borrowed from one type of project or customer and applied to another that, on the surface, seems vastly different. This is usually the genesis of true creative problem-solving in pro AV — or any business for that matter.

We’ve selected four projects from four different vertical markets — education, corporate, recording studios, and rental/staging — that highlight several interesting challenges. You may not have customers in these groups. Whether the challenge is using AV as a design tool, using it as a means of creating impact, overcoming acoustic problems, or working within pre-built environments, there are technologies and techniques to deal with each of them — and most of them are transferable among the multiple verticals markets which comprise pro AV.

On the surface, these challenges may seem similar to ones you encounter in your own projects. Chances are, the solutions presented here are different.
