Da-Lite Screen Co. introduced a new projection screen calculator offering what the company calls an easy and clear process for selecting the right projection screen for a project. The calculator is a handheld slider that can be used to quickly determine screen material.

Company officials said Da-Lite will send the calculators out at no charge to any client that requests one. The Da-Lite Screen Calculator has become popular, says the company, as a “quick reference tool” among Da-Lite specifiers and architects.

The calculator encompasses a series of steps to choosing the right projection screen. The steps include determining the optimum screen size, selecting the appropriate format the projection will be shown in, choosing the screen type, and picking the correct material or surface. Also included are specific step-by-step questions for screen selection based on ambient and non-ambient lighting as well as detailed descriptions of screen surfaces.

The Screen Calculator emphasizes the importance of specifying the correct projection screen. For example, users can match up which screen surface they need and the calculator will show if it’s washable, flame retardant, mildew resistant, the optimal width for ideal viewing, and the Goniophotometer reflectance readings.

In addition, the company said it added a new selection of sizes for its Theater-Lite portable projection screen. In addition to the 60-inch and 80-inch diagonal HDTV format sizes, the screen is now also available in 60-inch and 80-inch diagonal video format sizes, featuring the company’s exclusive Wide Power screen material. Wide Power offers a 2.2 gain with a 45-degree half angle, according to Da-Lite officials.
