DVE Debuts Telepresence Stage, Room Solutions

Digital Video Enterprises (DVE), which develops telepresence systems and 3D effects for stage and screen, this week plans to debut its newest telepresence solution, the DVE Telepresence Stage at InfoComm (booth C2976and C3066). The DVE Telepresence Stage is a portable presentation system that allows remote presenters and virtual objects to appear on-stage, even if they’re in fact halfway around the world.
The system is ideal for conferences, training, trade shows, consumer marketing, and special events. It uses a unique transparent screen for telepresence that permits imaged people to appear in the middle of the room, not on a flat screen. It also enables presentations in which virtual objects, up to 9 feet across and 7 feet high, appear to be floating in space in volumetric 3D. Such 3D content can be created using standard HD cameras, editing, and animation programs.
DVE patented two methods to provide 3D-like hologram telepresence. The first method uses a reflective foil that reflects a screen from above or below. The newer method of the DVE Telepresence Stage uses a semi-rigid transparent projection screen. Company officials said the newer approach is ideal for a new generation of stage effects.
According to the company, a few stage illusion companies provide bulky, expensive systems that giant truss systems and projectors hanging from the ceiling to accomplish the same effect. The DVE Telepresence Stage, however, can be set-up in an hour by an AV technician and does not rquire any large truss and/or suspension systems, the company said. The screen rolls out and pops up and the projector can be placed on the floor so no on-site rigging is needed.
Also on display at InfoComm will be DVE’s new Huddle Room 70, a group telepresence system that presents remote participants life-size, in high-definition, with a hidden camera behind the image for eye-level perspective. In addition to the hidden camera, the system utilizes a frameless flat-panel display so remote participants no longer appear as if they’re inside the bezel of a TV set.
“By removing the black bezel frame around the picture we have greatly enhanced the immersive telepresence experience, which was one of our primary design objectives,” said DVE’s co-founder Jeff Machtig, in a statement.
The system is designed to work with any HD codec so companies can use the same video codecs they use in their current conferencing infrastructure. It comes with a meeting table that integrates 21-inch data tablets for working with information. The tablets can also serve as a conference control system interface or as an interactive pen-touch control screen.
