Harman International Industries announced that David Slump will take on the dual role of president, consumer audio division, and vice president corporate development, effective immediately. He succeeds Richard Sorota who decided to pursue an opportunity outside the company, according to Harman officials.

Also effective immediately, Harman named Sachin Lawande as chief technology officer, succeeding Helmut Schinagel.

Slump recently served as senior vice president for energy management company Landis + Gyr Holdings, where he directed the company’s global brand strategy and evaluated portfolio and architecture investments. Slump held earlier executive positions with several global companies, including GE, ABB, and ComEd.

Sachin Lawande served most recently as Harman International’s chief innovation officer, guiding the company’s software strategy and key development partnerships. He was instrumental in launching an offshore development center in India as part of Harman’s strategy for optimizing its global engineering footprint. Lawande joined Harman International in 2006, following key technical assignments at QNX Software Systems (now a unit of Harman), 3Com Corp., and AT&T Bell Laboratories.

“These appointments reflect the next step in our strategy to strengthen the competitive position of Harman’s consumer audio business while sharpening the resource portfolio and cutting-edge technologies that characterize our market-leading brands,” said Dinesh C. Paliwal, Harman’s chairman and CEO.
