InfoComm to Release Updated Standard for Audio Coverage Uniformity

Uniform sound coverage is essential to the user experience. People in a space should all be provided the same opportunity to hear what the sound system is supposed to be delivering. That’s why InfoComm has produced an updated standard to measure an audio system for uniform coverage and classify its performance (ANSI/ INFOCOMM A102.01:2017). With the advancements in technology and continuous audio coverage problems, it’s critical to produce an updated standard since the first release in 2009.

The performance of a sound system can be characterized by several factors including uniformity of coverage, tonal balance and consistency, gain before feedback, and maximum sound pressure level. While the first version of this standard was designed for audio coverage in enclosed environments, this updated version expands to cover most listener areas.

“The updated standard includes improved measurement platforms which will allow the user to gain a much better understanding of exactly how a system is performing, opening the door for all kinds of opportunities,” said Ann Brigida, CTS®, Director of Standards, InfoComm International. “There will be greater consistency in results and reporting, and a reduced time in the field taking measurements.”
