JVC, a manufacturer of IP camera technology, is expanding its V.Networks line with the addition of the VN-V685U, the company’s first Power-over–Ethernet (PoE) IP camera with pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) and 360-degree continuous rotation.

PoE technology can speed installation and offer a preferable method of powering IP network cameras because no separate power supply is needed. The VN-V685U is a PTZ PoE network camera with 27x optical zoom and a 360-degree rotation and a smooth direct-drive motor. The new camera complies with IEEE 3af industry standard of Power over Ethernet for reliable connection to IEEE 3af standard power sources, according to JVC.

The new camera has a speed range of 0.04 to 400 degrees per second and accuracy within 0.03 degrees, according to JVC. There are 100 preset positions available. Company officials said the VN-V685U’s silent direct-drive motor provides quiet operation, making the camera virtually undetectable.

The VN-V685U is schedule to be available in December. Pricing was not yet available.
