Meridian Audio, a UK-based luxury home entertainment manufacturer, has developed the Meridian 810 reference video system as the company’s next step toward improving the home viewing experience, according to company officials.

The 810 system comprises two elements: the 810 reference video projector, which offers 10-megapixel resolution; and the 810 reference video scaler, which is designed to optimize the imaging of HD and standard resolution inputs for the 10-megapixel projection environment.

The projector uses a new light engine to deliver a resolution of 4096×2400 pixels, or 10 megapixels. By comparison, 1080p HDTV represents 2 megapixels. Powered by a PKI Xenon lamp, the projector also has a light output of 4,000 lumens and a native contrast ration of 10,000:1.

Displaying a 10-megapixel image requires special scaling, which is why Meridian developed the 810 scaler. Featuring Marvell’s Qdeo video processing technology, it converts digital sources of 480i to 1080p to full 10-megapixel resolution.

The Meridian 810 system will be available as a package including both the projector and the scaler, which will not be offered separately. Four packages will be available with lens systems that offer different throw lengths. All packages will be priced at $185,000 and are scheduled to begin shipping in third quarter 2008.
