Meyer Sound Co-Founders Receive Award
Meyer Sound founders Helen and John Meyer were given the 2008 Harold Burris-Meyer Distinguished Career in Sound Award.
Meyer Sound founders Helen and John Meyer were given the 2008 Harold Burris-Meyer Distinguished Career in Sound Award from the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT). The award is considered one of the institute’s highest honors.
“The world of the performing arts has always been a passion for us, both personally and professionally,” said Helen Meyer. “Meyer Sound has long strived to be part of the driving force in the evolution of theater sound technology, and we’re gratified by the recognition we’ve received today from our friends and colleagues at USITT.”
Since founding Meyer Sound in 1979, the Meyers’ involvement in the performing arts has led to the development of many of the company’s most acclaimed products used extensively in theatrical productions, such as the UPA loudspeaker. While the original was developed in 1980, the more recent self-powered version is one of the company’s best-selling products.
