The BT-LH80W production-quality high-definition/standard-definition LCD monitor from Panasonic is designed for studio and field applications. According to the company, the 7.9-inch low-power, lightweight monitor features the industry’s lowest delay realized by an image processing circuit that converts interlaced into progressive signals with delay within one field, a built-in waveform monitor that graphically displays luminance levels from -5 to 108 IRE, and a diagonal line compensation that reduces the occurrence of jagged noise in the diagonal direction for improved response. FOR-A Corporation of America introduces the FA-9100 HD/SD, its newest FA Series model of super signal processor. The unit offers optional cross-conversional between 1080i and 720p HD formats as well as HD/SD up-and-down conversion. The FA-9100 can decode Dolby E signals that were input from an external encoder or encode internal audio signals into Dolby E for output. Audio signal processing is based on a high-accuracy sampling rate converter, providing a full range of signal conversion functions, including channel swap, level adjustment, mux/demux, and delay. Cited by the company as the most installed JPEG2000 and MPEG2 digital cinema server with more than 2,200 screens in operation worldwide, the DCP-2000 from Doremi Labs features some new enhancements. Now including 3D playback, CineLink II strong link encryption, and Thomson’s NexGuard and Philips’ CineFence forensic watermarking, the DCP-2000 is very secure. Klein + Hummel announces an enhancement to its miniature active control monitors. An update to the M 51, the M 52 is a small, lightweight portable control monitor featuring a 3-inch driver and upgraded, built-in amplification capable of producing over 100 dB. The M 52 features convenient control of volume and power right on the front. In addition to new switching AC mains powering 85 to 230 volts, the M 52 can be DC powered by a 12 to 20-volt battery via a four-pole XLR connector. The company has also added its future-proof D-A conversion into the M 52’s sibling, the M 52 D. Identical to the M 52, this model adds S/PDIF and AES/EBU digital inputs that synchronize with any signal between 32 kHz and 48 kHz at 24-bit resolution. Price: N/A. Doremi Labs introduces the V1-HD/LE disk recorder. According to the company, this product provides a practical solution for AV projects that require a real-time HD video recorder at an affordable price. The unit’s resolution HD video playback is ideal for high-resolution video projectors as well as plasma and LCD displays. The unit records and plays HD-SDI and SDI video at a better than 2:1 compression rate. Featuring two hot-swap, removable drives for up to 80 minutes of recording, the recorder stores multiple video files in any SD or HD format: 1080i, 1080p, 720p, 525, and 626 line video. The two-pound, solid-state memory card has a heavy duty, shock-resistant body, and is equipped with easy-to-use controls, a flip-up, 3.5-inch 4:3 LCD monitor, and speakers for video and thumbnail clip viewing, selecting or deleting footage, or shot marking. The unit features a two-slot P2 card reader and offers instant access to recorded content with playback in multiple formats. FOR-A Corporation of America introduces the HVS-600HS HANABI 1 M/E switcher, which expands the features included in the HVS-500HS. Both the HVS-500HS and HVS-600HS offer four HD/SD-SDI inputs and five HD/SD-SDI outputs in the base configuration. Four additional HD/SD-SDI inputs and either two analog inputs and three analog outputs or four analog inputs can be installed as an option. In addition to HD-SDI and SD-SDI, both switchers offer optional HD/SD analog component, analog composite, and signals input via a DVI-I (PC) terminal. New on the HVS-600HS is the integration of the company’s 3D DVE, offering polygonal-based effects where video is literally wrapped around 3D shapes. New from Panasonic, the AJ-HDP2000 2K Processor allows users to record and process 2K and HD images to D-5 VTRs for editing, interchange, and distribution. Using the JPEG2000 compression scheme, the unit accepts 12-bit 4:4:4 “2K” 2048 by 1080 resolution film image data or 12-bit 4:4:4 sampled 1920 by 1080 HD images, and records to the AJ-HD3700H, AJ-HD3700A, and AJ-HD3700B D-5 HD VTRs. Using the advanced compression algorithm, film can be converted to digital data for subsequent processing in advanced DI environments. The full audio capability of the D-5 format is maintained, including eight-channel 24-bit recordings, as well as the ability of the system to handle compression audio streams for multichannel/second language applications. The Nugget HD Video Player from Doremi Labs now features extensive video file format support, thanks to the new Doremi Asset Manager software included with the unit. The software simplifies the election and Ethernet transfer of video files such as QuickTime, MXF, AVI, and WMV to the Nugget’s internal hard drive. The operator adds desired files into the software’s clip database, and synchronization and transfer of content to the unit’s hard drive happens transparently. The Nugget plays HD and SD video files up to 80 Mbps, more than four times the HDTV broadcast standard’s bit rate, according to the company. Sennheiser introduces the lightweight EK 3241 true-diversity portable receiver, designed for location sound recording. According to the company, it improves upon its predecessor, the EK 3041, by using a 36MHz switching bandwidth that is tunable in 5kHz increments to generate 7,200 frequency options. Weighing 7 ounces, the unit can be powered from a camcorder or via a rechargeable batter, delivering between 9 and 18 hours of continuous operation. The EK 3241 ships with 32 customer-selected frequencies preprogrammed, and offers the ability to store 20 additional frequencies in a user memory bank. Price: N/A.
