A: First, I’ll make some basic assumptions: 1) You have surveillance cameras on the network, 2) you have a basic processor controlling your videowall, and 3) you have available analog video inputs to this processor. In this scenario, the most common way to avoid taxing your processor is to implement a bank of decoders to convert your camera feeds to analog video, and feed these sources into a surveillance video multiplexer/switch. This will give you the capability to “process” the images prior to feeding your videowall. Companies such as Barco and Jupiter currently offer videowall controllers with streaming video decoder cards as inputs to their systems. This eliminates the requirement for a bank of decoders, the multiplexer/switch, and taxing the processor to display these images.
