RTW Adds BLITS Support to Surround Products

RTW announced that its SurroundControl 31900/31960 and SurroundMonitor 11900 series units now support BLITS.

RTW, which develops, manufactures, and markets sound studio technology, announced that its SurroundControl 31900/31960 and SurroundMonitor 11900 series units now support BLITS (Black’s & Lane’s Ident Tones for Surround), a method of identifying channels in 5.1 surround signals and preventing accidental channel swapping. Company officials said the units use a flexible internal signal generator that sends out signal clusters in BLITS format from the units’ digital and analog outputs.

The company also upgraded the 31900/31960 and 11900 to offer the ability to identify incoming sequences sent by a BLITS generator automatically, while checking the integrity of all 5.1 channels. Aside from showing the incoming BLITS sequence, the Surround units check channel swapping, delays between channels, phase and polarity changes, and level variations. Once a channel displays one of these aspects, the user receives a visual warning.

The 31900/31960 and 11900 units can be set up in a way that the permanent generation of the BLITS sequence does not affect the normal analyzing functions of the systems, according to RTW. They also offer the option to add an audio file intro (in .wav format) that can be pre-pended to the BLITS sequence on each channel of the 5.1 signal, such as in the case of station identification or other ID information.
