Focused-sound loudspeaker manufacturer SoundTube Entertainment has teamed up with ScentAir to offer businesses a creative solution that provides a little aroma with their audio.

The scent-ready versions of Sound-Tube’s Focus Point Dome loudspeakers incorporate ScentAir’s scent delivery systems, which use dry-air technology to release a fragrance without sprays, aerosols, or heated oils.

“Scent is the strongest sense related to memory and emotion,” says David Amaral, vice president of international business and engineered solutions at the Charlotte, N.C.-based ScentAir. “By adding scent to the audio and/or video message, people will have a high recall of the information and will find the experience more compelling,” he adds.

“The idea is to create an intense experience for the visitor with a one-on-one environment,” says Duke Ducoff, director of sales at SoundTube. “For example, a kiosk describing a beach-front condo could have an ocean scent accompanying the description of the condo and its environment.”

A motion sensor on the Focus Point Dome loudspeaker activates the scent system, which consists of a small tube that runs along the mounting harness for the loudspeaker and through a hole drilled at the top of the dome. A ScentAir dealer makes these adjustments and can also customize it with timer relays and other devices. The sensory combination poses several innovative options. “The SoundTube Focus Point domes are already being used by a number of digital signage customers to add focused audio to video displays. The addition of scent is a natural enhancement to the experience and helps create the right environment for the message being delivered,” says Ducoff.

Projected for a January 2009 release, prices for the scent-ready speakers are to be determined, but adding the SA designation to a Focus Point model is expected to increase the price by about 50 percent. Replacement scent cartridges will be available directly from ScentAir.
