Shure revealed that several hawker stalls in the popular electronics marketplace are selling counterfeit Shure earphones.

Shure revealed that several hawker stalls in a popular electronics marketplace of Apliu Street in Shamshuipo, Hong Kong, are selling counterfeit Shure earphones. The investigation into the matter is one of the company’s continued efforts to combat the illegal manufacture and sale of counterfeit Shure products.

“Our customers are at a risk of being taken advantage of by these illegal traders who continue to infringe on our brand,” said Ray Crawford, managing director of Shure Asia, in a statement. “It is our responsibility as a manufacturer to aggressively pursue these criminals who seek to deceive our customers. Educating them against the purchase of counterfeit products is one way.”

Shure began the investigation earlier this year by conducting a market survey on Apliu Street and the surrounding streets to identify fixed hawker stalls and other outlets that sold counterfeit Shure earphones. The investigation discovered that several stalls were selling counterfeit Shure E2 and E4 sound isolating earphones (which the company discontinued in September 2007), among others. Priced between $30 and $90HKD, the counterfeit earphones resembled actual Shure products, but upon further inspection were proved to be counterfeit.

“Shure maintains a list of all authorized distributors on our Web sites so that customers who wish to purchase Shure products can easily do so,” added Crawford. “I urge customers to be vigilant and use good judgment when presented with offers that seem too good to be true. If it appears too good to be true, it is very often not true!”

Shure’s two authorized distributors of Shure SE earphones in Hong Kong are ECT Eichi Technology and Soundwell Co.
