SRS Labs, a manufacturer of surround sound, audio, and voice technologies, formed a long-term strategic partnership with Vizio, providing the HD manufacturer with access to the company’s portfolio of audio and surround sound technology for their TV and accessory products. The first result of this agreement will be the addition of SRS TruSurround XT in flat-panel TVs the second quarter of 2008.

“With the physical constraints of today’s slimmer FPTVs [Front Projection Televisions], an optimal audio experience is a great challenge,” said John Morriss, vice president and general manager of Vizio’s TV Business Unit, in a statement. “Working closely with SRS’ engineering team to custom-tune TruSurround XT to fit our product requirements, we’ve been able to ensure that our customers receive the highest quality surround sound experience from Vizio TVs.”

According to the companies, a 2007 CEA report found that 76 percent of all flat-panel TVs are used without a separate audio amplification system and, therefore, consumers are left to rely on the internal loudspeakers of the television when watching TV. By including SRS TruSurround XT in their TVs, Vizio intends to provide consumers a cost-effective way to experience high-quality sound.

Vizio will ship a 42-inch and 47-inch model LCD with SRS TruSurround XT, as well as a 50-inch plasma. The three models will be available at Costco, Sam’s Club, Wal-Mart, Sears, K-Mart, and Circuit City in second quarter 2008.
