TV Magic Scores NY Theater Work

Broadcast systems integrator TV Magic said it has been selected as the AV and media consultant for the renovation of the New York State Theater.

Broadcast systems integrator TV Magic said it has been selected as the AV and media consultant for the renovation of the New York State Theater, home to both the New York City Ballet and the New York City Opera. The theater is one of the three principal halls of New York’s famed Lincoln Center, together with the Metropolitan Opera House and Avery Fisher Hall, the home of the New York Philharmonic.

As a part of a major renovation, the theater plans to incorporate a state-of-the-art video and audio system that will provide for the increasingly important media needs of both companies. According to Ken Tabachnick, general manager of the New York City Ballet, “The New York City Ballet and the New York City Opera plan to have a technologically advanced media-capable theater that will permit the complete capture, storage, manipulation, asset management, repurposing, and distribution of the companies’ digital assets.”

David Rosenberg, vice president of TV Magic’s eastern operations, said in a statement, “This is an exciting project that plays to TV Magic’s strengths in designing and building sophisticated digital media systems. We welcome the opportunity to bring our advanced engineering and design capabilities to a leading cultural venue.”

TV Magic is working closely with the management and staff of the ballet, opera, and theater to define and engineer a flexible design for the renovated HD facility, which will include multiple cameras, robotics, audio capture, and media asset archiving systems. All will be integrated completely with the ballet and opera’s stage management workflow and the opera’s titling system. Philip Johnson’s original design for the theater and auditorium will be maintained.

Plans call for the renovation to begin this month and continue through 2009. TV Magic will provide the design of the HD facility and manage the installation and commissioning of the AV and media systems.
