2009 Best Education AV Project
The future of AV is now at the University of Nevada Reno’s new Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, a 300,000-square-foot facility and home to more than 1 million volumes. Impressively, it includes an all-fiber HD distribution system. Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams designed the building’s AV systems to utilize HD-SDI over fiber. All sources at the building’s head-end that aren’t in HD-SDI format get converted and distributed through a Harris HD-SDI fiber router to any of the building’s NEC classroom projectors or Sharp HD LCD monitors.

The building has a 168-seat auditorium with 7.1 surround sound, three-screen HD projection, and video capture and streaming. There’s an Orion nine-monitor videowall, two Polycom and Creston-equipped HD videoconferencing suites, and a Digital Studio Classroom, where table microphones auto-steer the room’s Sony HD cameras. A Vaddio/Crestron tracking system senses when an instructor has left the lectern and follows their movements.
