Adder Delivers Real-Time DVI over IP

This week at InfoComm, Adder premiered its latest offering: the AdderLink Infinity, a hardware-based DVI extension device that can extend DVI video, audio, and USB signals over unlimited distances using IP and gigabit Ethernet technologies, according to the company.
“Traditional keyboard, video, and mouse extender technologies have suffered from range limitations, the need for dedicated cabling, and inflexibility in their inherently point-to-point system design,” said Nigel Dickens, technical director for Adder, in a statement. “Adder believed that there must be a better way of providing flexible remote access to computing equipment.”
AdderLink Infinity supports DVI-over-IP technology with resolutions up to 1920×1200 at 60 Hz over a single UTP gigabit Ethernet cable. The technology delivers near real time video by using hardware acceleration techniques at speeds the company claims are only possible through Adder’s adaptive compression technologies, which provide low latencies and produce high picture quality. The extender also supports multicast distribution of video and audio without additional network bandwidth or wiring, the company adds, so video can be multicast to multiple receivers, and any receiver can be configured to see any video source within the system.
Adder’s approach to USB extension supports certain classes of USB 2.0-compatible peripherals, says the company, including keyboards, mice, touch screens, printers, and mass storage devices.
The AdderLink Infinity will be available in Q3 2009 through local distribution partners worldwide.
