AMX has begun shipping its new MVP-9000i touch panels, the latest in the company’s Modero family. The MVP-9000i includes both wireless and wired functionality, new user interface capabilities such as support for gestures and page transitions, a 9-inch widescreen 24-bit color display, and a built-in 802.11a/b/g WiFi card with antenna diversity. Users can automatically switch from wireless to wired mode by docking the touch panel.

“The most advanced IT and audiovisual technologies are brought together in the MVP-9000i,” said AMX chief technology officer Robert Noble, in a statement. “The display, gesture user interface, and finger-swipe animated page transitions produce a graphics presentation that our customers are describing as ‘eye candy.’ “

The MVP-9000i’s WiFi and antenna diversity make the touch panel more reliable when in wireless mode, according to the company. In wired mode, its support for power over Ethernet (PoE) eliminates the need to pull a separate power cable for the docking.

The MVP-9000i also includes voice-over-IP intercom functionality, a built-in speaker and microphone, and USB stick and MicroSD slots. It features what AMX says is the industry’s first LED-backlit touch panel display for greater energy efficiency and 85-degree viewing in all directions.

It comes with a new versatile rough-in box that allows the touch panel to be flush, recess-mounted in stone, drywall, brick, and almost any other surface, according to the company.
