Barco has introduced a DVE option for its FSN Series of 3 Gbps-ready, multiformat video production switchers. Each DVE card provides two channels of real-time 2D digital video effects. Up to two DVE cards can be installed in the system’s FSN-1400 chassis, for a total of four DVE channels.

According to the company, the DVE option offers advanced features, such as the ability to assign DVE channels to the cut and fill signals independently, full key-frame editing, dynamic sizing, positioning and cropping, programmable borders and shadows, and freeze, strobe, and color effects. Each action can be performed automatically using the Auto Trans button, manually using the T-Bar, or automatically from the DVE menu.

Another feature of the DVE is its ability to transform between any PIP border type: hard-edged, soft-edged, full halo, inside halo, or outside halo. But the company is most excited about the new shot box, built specifically for the live production and events market. This feature, according to Barco, allows users to quickly store and name up to 128 unique single-keyframe styles, which can be used on air by themselves or combined into more creative effects.

“Even with this advanced, four-channel DVE capability, FSN is still only a fraction of the cost of the big market switchers,” claimed Jed Deame, vice president of image processing products for Barco, in a statement. “Clearly, for small production facilities, mobile trucks, churches, and retail and staging companies in particular, the FSN represents a value, and an extremely flexible way to fulfill any client’s most challenging multiformat demands.”
