Communications Engineering (CEI), a Newington, Va.-based broadcast and multimedia systems integrator, has added Rick Watkins to its sales team. Watkins brings more than 25 years of experience in network television news, broadcast production, and broadcast equipment sales.

In his new position, Watkins will be responsible for a variety of CEI clients, including TV stations and networks; houses of worship; post-production facilities; colleges and universities; and other media outlets.

Before joining CEI, Watkins served in several positions for the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., including director of technical services. Over a 22-year period he also held production, editing, and technical managing positions for Avid and ABC News, supervising production and technical staff on programs such as “ABC New Nightline,” “20/20,” and “World News Tonight.” He later served as an account manager for Sony and professional Products, working with a range of broadcast and production clients.

“We’ve been moving quickly to bring in the quality people we need to keep up with our expanding sales, and Rick is exactly the kind of person we wanted to bring on board,” said Phil Whitebloom, vice president of sales and marketing for CEI, in a statement. “He has an excellent combination of technical and account management experience that allows him to understand our clients’ challenges and requirements, so he will certainly be a great asset to the team.”
