Crestron this week announced the iPaneL, which turns any iPad into a two-way wireless Crestron touch panel. The glossy black iPaneL has tactile hard buttons for quick access to the most used functions, such as volume up and down, mute, and a five-way thumb pad for navigating channel guides. The iPaneL comes with a charging docking station, and future models will feature streaming media, according to the company.

Crestron officials said the iPaneL was designed to be sleek, lightweight, and ergonomic like the iPad but with the additional power and flexibility of a Crestron touch panel. Users can roam around the house while selecting songs and adjusting volume without navigating through subpages, and press a hot button to adjust lighting. Then they can put the iPaneL back on its contoured docking station for charging and storage.

"Every other control company has iPad apps, docking stations, and wall mounts. We have all that too, but we went further than that," said Vin Bruno, Crestron director of marketing, in a statement. "This is an amazing product that instantly turns any iPad into a full function, wireless Crestron touch panel…for just a few hundred dollars."

Crestron said its Mobile Pro G is the top-grossing lifestyle app on iTunes. The latest version of the control app includes landscape rotation and gestures navigation for both Crestron and Prodigy systems. A graphic template with user-selectable backgrounds designed for the iPad is available free from the Crestron website, or custom designs may be used to provide a consistent user experience on every mobile device and touch panel.
