Digital Signage Group Aims for Standards

The Digital Signage Federation (DSF), a new not-for-profit trade organization launched in February to serve the digital signage industry, said it has created a new Standards Committee. Ken Goldberg, CEO of Real Digital Media will be the committee's first chairman, according to the group.

The new committee will set standards for key issues such as measurement, integration and messaging, reporting, semantics, and privacy in digital signage systems. DSF officials said the Standards Committee will be permanent.

Rich Cooley, chairman of the Digital Signage Federation, also announced the appointment of industry professionals to chair five other committees.

Jack Sullivan, senior vice president and out-of-home media director for StarCom World Wide will chair the Advocacy/Outreach Committee, which was established to identify programs and activities that have an external focus to improve the visibility, understanding and appreciation of the digital signage industry

Robert Stowe, director of marketing services for Wendy’s International, will chair the Budget/Finance Committee to assist the Board of Directors with the DSF financial policies and strategy, including review of the annual operation budget.

Alan Brawn, principal of Brawn Consulting, will chair the Education Committee, tasked with creating and disseminating an educational program that will result in member companies operating more professionally, productively, profitably, and responsibly, according to the DSF.

Carre Dawson, director of business development for digital signage at Harris Corp. Broadcast Communications, will chair the Legislative/ Government Affairs Committee, which will develop programs to support the advancement of digital signage rights and improve legislation, regulations, codes and standards that affect the sale and use of digital signage and interactive technologies.

Jennifer Bolt, executive director of media services and innovation at Tracy Locke Advertising, will Chair the Membership Committee, providing guidance on efforts to recruit and retain members to the organization while recommending programs, services, and benefits to promote the overall interests of the digital signage industry.

“We are very fortunate to have such dedicated industry champions accept these leadership roles to help plan for the future, propel our industry forward, and volunteer to work to benefit all of our members who now number over 300 members in 33 countries,” Cooley said in a statement.
