EAW unveiled its new VF Series of passive loudspeaker products, consisting of five models of VFR two-way full-range loudspeakers; two VFS subwoofers; and three VSM stage monitors. The VF family represents a new approach to the needs of professional audio, combining both portable PA and install features in one package, according to the company.

EAW officials said the VF Series could be considered an update to its VR and FR Series, with enhanced transducer technology and performance. The boxes’ consistent construction opens up a number of configuration possibilities spanning the VFR and VFS Series, including clusters and arrays, matching speaker and subwoofer pairs, or standalone units, EAW said.

“For any criteria you can think of—ease of setup, great sound, versatility in configuration and application, design and style—what you are going to get for your dollar with the VF Series far surpasses anything else offered at this level,” said Adam Howarth, EAW product manager, in a statement.

The VFR Series consists of five two-way full-range loudspeaker models: VFR159 15-inch, VFR129 12-inch, VFR109 10-inch, VFR89 8-inch, and VFR69 6-inch two-way loudspeakers, all operating in passive mode. Traditional portable features such as handles, a pole cup, and dual NL4 inputs have been blended into the body design of the loudspeaker, hiding them in plain sight, according to the company.

For portable usage the speakers feature heavy-duty enclosure construction and foam-backed steel grilles. HF and LF transducers used in the VFR series were born from those used in EAW’s other portable products. VFR loudspeakers also hide standard installation features such as large square rotatable horns, barrier strip inputs, the ability to add a transformer for constant voltage systems, integrated OmniMount mounting points, and dedicated U-brackets and yokes for each product. The VFR159 and VFR129 ship with a 90-degree by 60-degree horn that can be easily field replaced with a 60-degree by 40-degree horn.

The companion subs to the VF family, the VFS Series, were designed to integrate seamlessly with the full range of VFR products in an array or as a standalone sub. Two size selections—VFS220 Double 12-inch and VFS250 Double15-inch—can be matched to applications utilizing top quality transducers in direct radiating vented enclosures optimally tuned to match the rest of the VF product line, company officials said.

The VFS subs combine features desirable in both portable and permanently installed systems. The size and shape of the subs have been matched to the dimensions of VFR products, while maintaining a low profile for use in installations. VFS units offer pole mount cups for use as pole bases for portable systems while maintaining appropriate rigging options for permanent installations. Carrying handles have been blended into the lines of the subwoofer providing a clean look and unique way of handling the sub, EAW said. When used with an optional Flybar, two full range VFR loudspeakers can be mounted to either side of a VFS sub using preconfigured and optimized splay angles.

The VSM Series comprises three models of two-way horn-loaded stage monitors—the VSM159 15-inch, VSM129 12-inch, and VSM109 10-inch two-way stage monitors. The VSM Series maintains the look and hybrid portable/install features of the rest of the VF family, extending its capabilities as a dual-purpose stage monitor and portable PA. The units’ low profile and compact size are ideal for situations where small physical size is needed, without sacrificing professional performance. Powerful 10-, 12- or 15-inch low frequency transducers provide LF presence packaged with smooth highs from large horns, giving VSM monitors the ability to provide power and clarity in a small package, according to the company.

EAW’s VFR Loudspeakers, VFS Subwoofers and VSM Stage Monitors will soon be available in black or white finish, company officials said.
