Gefen 4X Cat-6 Extender

Connectivity solutions provider Gefen announced the availability of two new companion products for matrix switching systems using HDMI. Both are Cat-6 cable-based extenders that support 3DTV for delivery of 1080p full HD and multichannel audio.

The Gefen 4X Cat-6 Extender for HDMI is a single rackmounted extender that can be combined with any Gefen 4×4 matrix product, according to the company. It extends all four connected outputs over Cat-6 cable up to 200 feet to the remote HDTV displays. One Cat-6 cable between the sender and receiver units delivers 1080p full HD with 3DTV, multichannel audio, FST (Fast Switching Technology), IR remote, RS-232 and IP control signals, The sender includes four sender units in a one rackmount solution that can fit next to any mounted 4×4 matrix system. Four individual receiver units connect the displays to the sender.

The 8X Cat-6 Extender for HDMI is a companion extender for Gefen 8×8 matrix products and similarly allows all eight connected outputs to be extended up to 200 feet from the sources using one Cat-6 cable per display. The 8X product delivers the same features as its 4X sibling.

“”Because it’s designed specifically for any matrix switching system, it is a plug-and-play operation that also streamlines display extension using economic Cat-6 cable that can be easily installed,” said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO of Gefen, in a statement.

Both the 4X and 8X Cat-6 Extenders for HDMI can be used as companions to the 4×4 or 8×8 matrixes from Gefen. They and can also be used as standalone extenders for any number of HDTV displays, according to the company.
