Gefen's New Splitter Departs from Norm

The GefenTV Mini 1:8 Splitter for HDMI v1.3 uses a wall-mountable enclosure with a small footprint designed to streamline installations for easy wire placement.

The newest product from Gefen does what no other GefenTV HDMI v1.3 splitter has done before, according to company officials: mount to the wall. The GefenTV Mini 1:8 Splitter for HDMI v1.3 uses a wall-mountable enclosure with a small footprint designed to streamline installations for easy wire placement.

"The Mini 1:8 Splitter for HDMI v1.3 marks a departure from the standard rack or desktop design," aid Hagai Gefen, president and CEO of Gefen, in a statement. "This model is designed to be mounted on any 2x3, 2x4 stud on a back wall. Its small size and secure power allows customers to create clean installs without spending a lot of money."

According to the company, the Mini 1:8 Splitter for HDMI v1.3 delivers high-definition video and multichannel audio from one Blu-ray Disc player, set-top box, PS3, Xbox game consoler, or any device using HDMI connectivity, to eight displays and/or projectors simultaneously. It supports HDMI v1.3 features, including lip sync, deep color, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS Master Audio, making it suitable for applications such as digital signage.

The Mini 1:8 Splitter for HDMI v1.3 allows users to select either two-channel or multichannel 7.1 audio, says the company. A switch for internal or external EDID helps maintain any selectable signal transmission to all eight displays at all times. The splitter also comes with a locking power supply and one HDMI locking cable.
